Haircut 100
Haircut One Hundred (also known as Haircut 100) was a pop music band formed in 1980 by Nick Heyward, Les Nemes, Graham Jones, Phil Smith, Mark Fox, and Blair Cunningham, known as one of the forerunners of the popular new romantic movement.
They were successful from the beginning, with their 1981 single "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)" setting the stage for the breakthrough success of the album 'Pelican West' (1982). They were successful from the beginning, with their 1981 single "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)" setting the stage for the breakthrough success of the album 'Pelican West' (1982). The single "Love Plus One" was even bigger than anything previous, and Haircut 100 seemed poised for stardom just as Heyward decided to seek a solo career. The remainder of the band tried to continue with the album 'Paint and Paint' (1984), with percussionist Mark Fox taking over Heyward's vocal duties, but they broke up soon after.
Although somewhat dismissed as a 'one hit wonder' due to the spread of blockbuster hit "Love Plus One", the band proved influential by the late 00s when new wave revivalist bands such as Vampire Weekend and No Kids emerged employing a similar style of preppy, afrobeat-like guitar pop.

Haircut 100 Lyrics
I, I went off to the right
Without saying good goodbye
Where does it go from here?
Is it down to the lake I fear?
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Then I call
Ring, ring, ring, ring
La la love plus one
Ring, ring, ring, ring
When I call love
Give love some soul
If I may be quite so bold
Where does it go from here?
Is it down to the lake I fear?
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Then I call
Ring, ring, ring, ring
La la love plus one
Ring, ring, ring, ring
When I call love
Love plus one

I miss the 80s
I miss thinking I have my whole life ahead of me
I miss the innocents
I miss that first grasp of independence
I miss thinking I knew it all
I miss that feeling of thinking about nothing but girls
I miss the first kisses
I miss falling in love for the first time
I miss falling in love for the first time again a month later
I miss never worrying about my health
I miss the times when music moved me
And
I miss my youth

Without saying good goodbye
Where does it go from here?
Is it down to the lake I fear?
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Then I call
Ring, ring, ring, ring
La la love plus one
Ring, ring, ring, ring
When I call love
Give love some soul
If I may be quite so bold
Where does it go from here?
Is it down to the lake I fear?
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Then I call
Ring, ring, ring, ring
La la love plus one
Ring, ring, ring, ring
When I call love
Love plus one

I turned 15 in the cold winter of 1982, back in the days when seasons still existed in the US, and 80% of our topography was not on fire. I think the best reply to this comment is from our auteur Nicky Heyward during the Pelican West reunion. “If you want Happiness, have it. There is Nothing that can stop you.” — P. Yogananda. And paraphrased by a young lad from Beckenham, “It’s always a Fantastic Day.” Said many times before, but bears repeating from a very grateful generation raised on Maggie’s Milk Farm, “We love you Nicky.”

Get your ass to bed granpa. The new stuff tops the old stuff all day, everyday.

I disagree slightly. It's better than 100 percent of what is going on today

I just read an article saying that record labels are focused exclusively on risk managing against law suits for copyright infringements. So they no longer scout unknown talent as often, nor as freely as they used to, and absolutely no unsolicited submissions are accepted. Also the record companies have unilaterally decided to stick to traditional music genres such as county, rap, pop etc.;so even though new types of music have been invented they will not be marketed because it seen as too high a risk overall.

This was beautiful British music for all of us American teens that stayed away from drugs and alcohol in the 1980s. Pelican West is a fantastic record. Thank you Nick and the band💚😉
