They were successful from the beginning, with their 1981 single "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)" setting the stage for the breakthrough success of the album 'Pelican West' (1982). The single "Love Plus One" was even bigger than anything previous, and Haircut 100 seemed poised for stardom just as Heyward decided to seek a solo career. The remainder of the band tried to continue with the album 'Paint and Paint' (1984), with percussionist Mark Fox taking over Heyward's vocal duties, but they broke up soon after.
Although somewhat dismissed as a 'one hit wonder' due to the spread of blockbuster hit "Love Plus One", the band proved influential by the late 00s when new wave revivalist bands such as Vampire Weekend and No Kids emerged employing a similar style of preppy, afrobeat-like guitar pop.

Love can't pass me by
Love has got me in triangles
Love can't pass me by
Gold for Friday, work all day
Silver melts your Saturday
Playing love is going to the top, bop
Playing love with same balloons
Playing with the same old face
Love triangles
Love can't pass me by
Love toblerones
Love can't pass me by
The lyrics to Haircut 100's "Love's Got Me In Triangles" suggest a tangled love affair that's full of uncertainty and complexity. The opening lines, "Love has got me in triangles," suggest that the singer is involved in a love triangle - a situation where three people are romantically involved with each other. The repetition of "Love can't pass me by" suggests that the singer is completely immersed in this relationship and unable to break free.
The following lines suggest that the singer is struggling to balance their love life with other aspects of their existence. "Gold for Friday, work all day" suggests the singer has a demanding day job that takes up most of their time. "Silver melts your Saturday" suggests that the singer still manages to squeeze in some leisure time, though not necessarily with their loved ones. The lines "Playing love is going to the top, bop" suggest that the singer is optimistic about his romantic prospects.
However, things quickly turn complicated again, with the line "Being in the same platoon" implying that the triangle consists of people who are closely connected or work together. "Playing love with same balloons / Playing with the same old face" suggests that perhaps the singer is involved with people who are too similar to each other, leading to confusion and frustration. In essence, the lyrics depict a messy love affair with many unknowns.

I miss the 80s
I miss thinking I have my whole life ahead of me
I miss the innocents
I miss that first grasp of independence
I miss thinking I knew it all
I miss that feeling of thinking about nothing but girls
I miss the first kisses
I miss falling in love for the first time
I miss falling in love for the first time again a month later
I miss never worrying about my health
I miss the times when music moved me
And
I miss my youth
