Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Hawkwind's "Angel Voices" describe the preparations and checks that occur before a spaceship launches into space. The song paints a futuristic and technical picture of space travel, with references to different control systems and modules. The first lines refer to a final adjustment of timing sequences for the master control system, which suggests that precise timing is essential for a successful launch. This is followed by a brief description of the main engine check, ensuring that everything is functioning as it should.

The rest of the song references specific modules and meters, such as the proton drive unit and linear acceleration module, which likely measure levels of fuel or energy consumption. The crystal absorption unit is an interesting detail, as it suggests that the spaceship is powered by crystals rather than traditional types of fuel. The vector thrust module and activity level seem to refer to the directional control of the spaceship, with the reading being at minus oh two one point seven, indicating the need for readjustment. The song ends with computer checks and the activation of dream sequencing functions for the passenger module, hinting at the synesthetic experience of space travel.

Line by Line Meaning

Final adjustment to timing sequences for the master control system
The completion of the calibration for the system that regulates and coordinates the spacecraft's various functions.

Amazing performance. I just love Huwey's twiddley lead work. Nice to see a live footage with Clive Deamer on drums. Must have been in late 1984 or early 1985, when Alan Davey had joined and Clive was still in the band.
