Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hawkwind's song "Earth Calling" convey a message of urgency and desperation. The repetition of the phrase "earth calling" signifies an attempt to establish communication with the planet that is in trouble. It is a wake-up call to humanity to take responsibility for their actions that have caused harm to the environment. The repetition of the phrase also communicates the frustration of the singer as there is no response from the earth, implying that it might be too late to reverse the damage done.

The lyrics also highlight the interconnectedness of all beings on the planet. By establishing contact with the earth, the singer is acknowledging its presence as a living entity that can feel and respond. This sentiment underscores the need for humanity to view the planet as a living organism that is integral to their survival.

Hawkwind at their pulverizing best.

The first group I ever saw, at the Hammersmith Odeon on Sunday, February 9th 1975.
The ticket cost me one pound!
They were utterly fantastic. Lemmy and Simon King, what a rhythm section!
As for Stacia, a force of nature. Dave Brock is the very last of the British Underground
to stick to his principals. He has outlasted almost everybody from that period.

The current state of the USA is largely attributable to the fact that Hawkwind didn't get sufficient attention here.
