Get Lucky

Down all the days
Cast for your time
A sucker in the line
To be told you're so fine
You deserve the hire
Well, some folks cannot be satisfied
And they just want somebody to ride
To have and have
And never have not
(Oh!) So take what you expect
And put it in reverse
See which one of us
Bangs the cymbals first
We're taking you to pieces
We're taking you to pieces
We're taking you to pieces
We're taking you to pieces
You make it really easy
You make it really easy
(Oh!) You're never going to touch me with your curse
Get inside their minds, before they get to yours
(Repeat chorus 2x)
Get lucky!
The lyrics to Heatmiser's song "Get Lucky" speak to the idea of being cast in a role and ultimately being used by others for their own benefit. The opening lines "Let me put you in the play / Down all the days / Cast for your time" suggest that the singer is positioning someone as a mere player in a larger scheme. The use of the phrase "A sucker in the line" underscores the idea that the person being cast is being set up for exploitation.
The next lines provide a sense of the payoff for the person doing the casting. The person being cast is told "You deserve the hire", but the singer notes that there are some people who can never be satisfied and will simply use others for their own gain. The final lines of the opening verse make it clear that the person being cast in this role is exactly what those who want to exploit someone are looking for: "And you're the one they want / To have and have / And never have not."
The chorus of the song reinforces this idea of being "taken to pieces" and "made easy." The singer suggests that the best way to combat being taken advantage of is to "Get inside their minds, before they get to yours," and to "Get lucky!"
Overall, the lyrics to "Get Lucky" paint a stark picture of a world in which people are constantly looking for those who can be exploited for their own gain. The song highlights the importance of being aware of these dynamics and being willing to fight against them, even if that means taking risks.
