The lyrics were written by the Anglo Welsh poet Katherine Philips known as the "Matchless Orinda" Highly regarded for her poetry and translations in her brief life 1632 - 1664 she died in London of small pox, a few years after Purcell's birth.

Merci beaucoup pour vos explications. Le divin Purcell est l'un de mes compositeurs préférés. J'apprécie aussi beaucoup la période Élisabethenne Dowland Bird...peut être mon ascendance bretonne...

Not written but translated from French. The author of lyrics is one of creators French Academy poet Mark Antoine Gerard de Sent Aman. But the translation is wonderful, of course 🙏
