HighasaKite make songs unlike most things yet to come out of Norway. Pop music with a twist. Let's start in Brooklyn. Via Monrovia to Piraeus and Norwegian mountaintops on to Stockholm.
Irresistible soundscapes full of tasty hooks and mysterious stories, musicians from some of Norways best young bands and then some – Highasakite is undoubtably one of the most original and exciting indiebands you’ve come across in a while.
Keyboards, zither, pounding drums and the occasional noise guitar together with Ingrid Helene's distinctive voice makes a delicious blend of exciting indie pop inspired by artists such as Lykke Li and the movie Where The Wild Things Are.
Highasakite's debut album "All That Floats Will Rain" has received rave reviews throughout the Norwegian press, some even calling it album of the year (Dagbladet) and saying that "No song on this album is redundant, it's all brilliantly brought to life. This, ladies and gentlemen, is pop music!"
Highasakite is playing many of Norways biggest and most important festivals this summer, amonst them Øya and Hove, in support of their debut album 'All That Floats Will Rain', out February 3rd 2012, on Norwegian indie label Riot Factory.
Iran
Highasakite Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But if I could choose, I'd go to Iran
I'll bring some booze and go on a bender
And I'll befriend a married man
It's common news, it's common sense
But if I could choose, I'd go to Iran
It's common news, it's common sense
It's common sense, a moral stand
But if I could choose, I'd go to Iran
I'll bring some booze and go on a bender
And I'll befriend a married man
It's common news, it's common sense
But if I could choose, I'd go to Iran
It's common news, it's common sense
That I could lose my own two hands
It's common sense, a moral stand
But if I could choose, I'd go to Iran
I'll bring some booze and go on a bender
And I'll befriend a married man
Iraaan, Iraaan, Iraaan
Iraaan, Iraaan, Iraaan
It's common sense, a moral stand
But if I could choose, I'd go to Iran
I'll bring some booze and go on a bender
And I'll befriend a married man
The lyrics to "Iran" by Highasakite are controversial and thought-provoking. The song speaks to the dichotomy between western ideals and the reality of life in Iran. The chorus, which repeats the word "Iran" several times, hints at the idea of escape, of someone who is seeking something new and different. The verses, however, offer a sense of reality that is very different from the escapist fantasy of the chorus.
The repeated line "It's common sense, a moral stand" speaks to the idea that there is a correct and moral way to view Iran, and that perhaps the lyrics of the chorus are wrong or misguided. However, the lyrics of the chorus suggest that there is something alluring about Iran - perhaps the culture, the people, or some other aspect of the country that is unknown to the listener.
Taken as a whole, the lyrics of "Iran" demand that the listener grapple with their understanding of foreign cultures and the role those cultures play in our imagination. The song encourages the listener to question their assumptions and preconceptions about Iran, and to seek new insights and understanding.
