Be the fire burning inside out
Be the love casting out all fear
Let your name rule the atmosphere
Love like the skies are wide
Crashing down to bring the world to life
Hope came dancing on an empty grave
Be the crown in the light and sound
Be the fire burning inside out
Be the love casting out all fear
Let your name rule the atmosphere
Oh oh oh
And we owe it all to Jesus
Sin and all its shame deleted
Death and all its chains defeated
And the light we see is Jesus
And the air we breathe is freedom
And the sound it knows no fear
Your love rules the atmosphere
Oh oh oh
Be the crown in the light and sound
Be the fire burning inside out
Be the love casting out all fear
Let your name rule the atmosphere
In Hillsong United's song Rule, the lyrics speak about the power and reign of Jesus Christ in the world. The first verse and chorus asks for Jesus to be the crown, fire, and love that permeates through everything. It is an acknowledgment of His influence on our lives and a call for Him to take control of the atmosphere.
The second verse speaks of the transformative power of Jesus and His triumph over sin and death. It speaks of the hope that came with His resurrection and the grace that He brings. The chorus repeats the call for Jesus to rule in our lives and in the world around us.
The bridge further affirms the all-encompassing power of Jesus, stating that everything good that we experience is because of Him. Sin, shame, and death have been defeated by Him, and we live in a state of freedom and love because of His sacrifice on the cross.
Overall, the lyrics of Rule are a declaration of Jesus' power and influence in our lives and a call for Him to continually reign over us.
