The lyrics to Homecomings's song Tiny Kitchen are reflective, contemplative, and imbued with a sense of nostalgia. The song is about finding solace in the simplicity of everyday life, and cherishing the small moments that make up our existence. The opening lines, "In a small afternoon, yesterday's vegetables / Cut on a whim / The scent of the room lingers," set the tone for the rest of the song, which is filled with imagery of home and domesticity. The singer longs for a bigger kitchen and the companionship of two cats, but is content with what they have in the present moment. They reflect on the unnamed dish they've cooked and the memories and emotions it has brought up.
The chorus of the song focuses on the idea of a shared experience, specifically the scent of someone else's presence. The lines "Through the steam, your scent floats so near / Reflected in a shallow dish / An unnamed dish, just like me" evoke a sense of intimacy and connection between the singer and the person they are missing. The second half of the chorus expands on this idea, with the singer reflecting on the unnamed feelings that they and the other person share: "Unnamed feelings, just like me / I wonder if someone is on the other side now / Thinking about trivial things, just like me / An unnamed day, just like me."
Overall, Homecomings's song Tiny Kitchen is a beautiful meditation on the beauty of ordinary life and the power of small moments to bring us joy and comfort.
