Kill the Night
Hot Water Music Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
with a different pillow every night.
Still I close my eyes
and dream I'll make it home.
And ever now and then I
find my dreams before I learn
that every mountain call of what I yearn.
It's a blessing and a curse.
Wait 'till the lunacy shakes the hand of reality.
Time will fly and straight our lives
as we all live to die.
Holding on to anything.
It's hard to find the in-between
of burning candles at both ends
We're bored and petrified.
[Chorus]
We love to kill the night.
Pay tolls with Blood and Time.
Our body, souls, and minds
rectify TONIGHT!
Deep inside on the proving ground
there's always war to wage.
And the bloodshed of our demons here
have covered everything.
Nazerath's seen the Romans lost
and Balthor's crying eyes.
Find ourselves on the road
that always takes us by surprise.
[Chorus x2]
The song "Kill the Night" by Hot Water Music tells a tale of the struggles and contradictions that come with pursuing one's dreams. The first verse depicts the restless nature of someone constantly on the move, never able to find real rest or a sense of home. The lyrics indicate that at times, they feel as though they've reached their aspirations, only to realize that they are still a long way off from where they want to be. This is represented by the line, "Still I close my eyes and dream I'll make it home. And ever now and then I find my dreams before I learn that every mountain call of what I yearn. It's a blessing and a curse." The singer finds themselves caught between the desire to achieve their dreams and the reality that there will be sacrifices along the way.
The chorus of the song tells us that we all have a degree of control over our lives but are still at the mercy of fate. It suggests that we are all searching for something and willing to pay a price for it, even if that means sacrificing our time, body, soul or mind. In the second verse, the lyrics take a darker turn, describing the internal conflicts and demons that we encounter as we strive to achieve our goals. The "proving ground" is a metaphor for the battlefield of life, where we must face our fears and doubts. The bloodshed and tears of the past serve as a reminder of the challenges we have already faced and the potential sacrifices that may lay ahead.
Overall, "Kill the Night" is a song about the complexities and contradictions that come with striving to achieve our dreams. It acknowledges that there will be sacrifices along the way, but ultimately encourages us to persevere and continue the fight regardless of the cost.
