Hi-ridin' daddy-o
Prince of the rodeo
Spur-hump hey-ho let's go
Prince of the rodeo
Fornicator of the lasso
Prince of the rodeo
Prince of the rodeo
Shoot the chute
Pull the flute
I'm back in the saddle
The world's most promising cowboy
Lo-ridin' daddy-o
Prince of the rodeo
Sexy denim romeo
Prince of the rodeo
Rhinestone homo rock-n-roll
Prince of the rodeo
Buns of steel Geronimo
Prince of the rodeo
Jerk that calf
Half-n-half
I'm back in the saddle
The world's most progressive cowboy
And don't forget the clown
I'm ridin' high, I'm ridin' low
Prince of the rodeo
Prince of the Rodeo by Hot Water Music is a song filled with metaphors that depict the central character as a cowboy who is proud of his masculinity and prowess. The verses are filled with lines that allude to cowboy activities such as horse riding, lasso throwing and stomping. The opening lines, "Hi-ridin' daddy-o, Prince of the rodeo, Spur-hump hey-ho let's go, Prince of the rodeo," set the tone for the entire song where the singer brags about his cowboy activities. The singer also boasts of his prowess in sexual conquests, giving himself different titles such as 'Fornicator of the Lasso' and 'Sperminator of the Asshole.'
The lyrics are satirical, subversive, and sarcastic, revealing societal stereotypes about masculinity and cowboy culture. The song challenges the traditional expectations of masculinity, where men are supposed to conform to certain expectations that revolve around machismo and aggression. Prince of the Rodeo celebrates a new kind of man whose masculinity is not tied to stereotypes or societal norms. The lyrics portray a character who is sexually open-minded, whose masculinity is not threatened by his sexual orientation, and who is proud of his liberal attitudes.
