From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Do You Believe In Love
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just a-lookin' for someone to meet
One woman, who was looking for a man
Now I'm hopin' (hopin') that the feeling is right
And I'm wonderin' (wonderin') if you'll stay for the night
So I'm coming (I don't wanna be lonely, baby, please tell me)
I wanna love you all over
Do you believe it's true?
Do you believe in love?
Oh, you're making me believe it too
Now the feeling is beginning to grow
And the meaning is something you only know
If you believe it, take my hand and I'll take your heart
Come on
Now I wonder (wonder) where does true love begin?
I'm going under (under), so I'm lettin' you in
My woman (I don't wanna be lonely, baby, please tell me)
I wanna love you all over
(Do you believe in love?)
Do you believe in love?
(Do you believe it's true?)
You believe that it's true?
(Do you believe in love?)
Oh, you're making me believe it too
Yeah
(I used to have you in a photograph)
I'm so glad it's changed
(But now I've got you and it's gonna last)
Do you believe in love?
(Do you believe in love?)
(Do you believe it's true?)
I'm so glad, I'm so glad
(Do you believe in love?)
Oh, you're making me believe it too, yeah
(Wee-ooh, ooh-oh, ooh-ooh)
Do you believe in love?
(Wee-ooh, ooh-oh, wee-ooh)
Do you believe it's true?
(Wee-ooh, ooh-oh, ooh-ooh)
Do you believe in the love?
(Wee-ooh, ooh-oh, wee-ooh)
I believe in love too
(Wee-ooh, ooh-oh, ooh-ooh)
The song "Do You Believe in Love" by Huey Lewis & The News describes the feeling of finding someone special after searching and hoping for love. The singer is walking down a one way street, looking for someone to meet when he spots a woman who is also looking for a man. He is hopeful that the feeling between them is right and he wonders if she'll stay the night with him. He then asks her if she believes in love and if she thinks it's true. The song then goes on to describe how the feeling between them grows and becomes something only they can understand. The singer then invites her to take his hand and join him in a journey of love.
The lyrics convey the idea that finding love is a beautiful and powerful feeling, and that it takes two people who truly believe in it to make it work. The song's upbeat tempo and catchy melody make it a fun and easy listen, and the lyrics speak to those who have longed and searched for true love.
