Inspired by influential bands such as The Cure, The Strokes, and The Killers, HUNNY's music can be described as well-crafted "post-punk tinged pop". Combining elements of new-wave sheen, shoegaze gloom, and angular guitar rock, the band's sound carries a distinct California cool sensibility. Jason Yarger, the band's lead vocalist and guitarist, coined the term "sadwave" to characterize HUNNY's genre, with lyrics revolving around their personal experiences growing up and encounters with love and heartbreak.
HUNNY gained early recognition with the release of their self-titled EP, "Pain/ Ache/ Loving," in 2015. This EP garnered millions of streams, thanks to tracks like the hit single "Cry For Me." Throughout their journey, HUNNY has shared close ties with long-time friends The Neighbourhood and Bad Suns. In 2015, they accompanied these bands on a tour across the United States called "#THEFLOOD2015," which coincided with the release of The Neighbourhood's second album.
In 2019, HUNNY signed a record deal with Epitaph Records and released their debut full-length album, "Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes." Produced by GRAMMY-winner Carlos de la Garza (known for his work with Paramore and Best Coast), the album showcased a polished production sheen that received acclaim from music outlets like Alternative Press. The album's blend of perfunctory electronic and new-wave pop, infused with themes of love, heartbreak, and neuroses, further solidified HUNNY's unique sound. As a result, the band embarked on global tours, sharing stages with notable acts such as State Champs, Citizen, and The Story So Far.

In my head to what could have been
Thinking too much and too often about you again
If I knocked would you let me in?
I'm a fool again
If I knocked would you let me in?
What I would do if I was with you
In the the other room
From the other room
Be still my beating heart
Won't you bleed for another
You're a work of art
I want to swim in the colors again
If I knocked would you let me in?
I'm a fool again
If I knocked would you let me in?
What I would do if I was with you
In the the other room
Dreaming of you is all I can do
From the other room
What I would do if I was with you
In the the other room
Dreaming of you is all I can do
From the other room
If you were alone, I'd try
If you were alone, I'd try
If you were alone, I'd try
If you were alone, I'd try
What I would do if I was with you
In the the other room
Dreaming of you is all I can do
From the other room
The song "La Belle Femme" by HUNNY is a testament of unrequited love and the pain it brings. The lyrics speak of the singer falling victim to his thoughts about someone he cannot have. He wonders what it would be like to be with her, to swim in the colors of her beauty again. However, he is resigned to dreaming of her from afar, from the other room. The singer expresses a desire to be with this person, and if given the chance, he would try. But unfortunately, this person is not alone, and his feelings are not reciprocated.
The song's lyrics are poignant and emotional, and the use of repetition gives emphasis to the singer's desperation. The chorus, "What I would do if I was with you in the other room, dreaming of you is all I can do from the other room," is particularly powerful in highlighting the singer's longing for this person. The use of metaphorical language also adds depth to the lyrics, such as "be still my beating heart, won't you bleed for another," suggesting that the singer's heart belongs solely to the subject of his desire.
Overall, "La Belle Femme" is a beautiful and heartbreaking song that perfectly encapsulates the pain of unrequited love. It is a relatable theme for many people who have experienced unreturned feelings for someone, making it a powerful and memorable piece of music.
