Ilan Chester has incorporated a global range of influences into his music. Inspired by Tito Rodriquez, the Puerto Rican multi-instrumentalist who was one of the spearheads of New York's Latin music scene, Chester was equally enamored of American R&B and British rock. His music has grown to include elements of classical music, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, and Venezuelan music. A former member of such Venezuelan bands as Sugar, Cocoa & Milk, Gerry Weil & His Band, Bacro, Syma, and Sky White Meditation, Chester has had phenomenal success since launching his solo career.
After a series of memorable albums, including Songs Books of Venezuelan Love, Vols. 1 & 2, he attracted international attention with the platinum-selling album Navideno Heart in 2002.
In 2003 he married Merci Mayorca, who hosted a Venezuelan TV Show named Supercrópolis, with Raúl González. Nowadays he lives in Florida with his wife. They own "The vibe, zona cero stress" a spa in Caracas

Una madrugada de 1915, salió Antonio Carrillo de una fiesta musical en la casa de Don Teodosio Adames, abuelo de Vinicio Adames, para dirigirse a una esquina a una cuadra del sitio en compañía del guitarrista Rafael Mendoza. En aquel lugar, sentado en el piso de una estrucuta semi derruida y alumbrado con la luz de una vela escribió una melodía. En esa época era cura párroco del templo Inmaculada Concepción de Barquisimeto, el Padre Carlos Borges Requena, quien fue sorprendido una media noche de aquel año por las vibraciones sonoras del bandolín de Carrillo. Al levantarse y hacer pasar a la casa cural al maestro y su conjunto, aquél le dedicó esa pieza inédita y al levita preguntarle "¿cómo se llama?", Carrillo le contestó, "la traje para que usted le ponga nombre", y Borges la tituló Como llora una estrella.
Esta pieza fue popularizada internacionalmente en la voz del cantante azteca Marco Antonio Muñiz, quien la vocalizó con la letra del poeta Vivas Toledo de la población de Los Teques. ESTA CANCION ES "VENEZOLANISIMA"
