During the band's early years, In Flames had a varying group of musicians recording with them, including many session musicians. By the release of Colony (1999), the group had established a stable lineup. Their sixth studio album Reroute to Remain (2002) showed the band moving toward a newer style of music that moved further away from melodic death metal and closer to alternative metal. This decision was criticized by fans of the group's heavier metal sound; however, it increased the band's mainstream audience and bolstered their album sales. As of 2008, In Flames has sold over two million records worldwide.
Since the band's inception, In Flames have released thirteen studio albums, three EPs, and two live DVDs, their latest release being their thirteenth studio album I, the Mask in 2019. In Flames has been nominated for three Grammis Awards. They won two of these nominations; one for Soundtrack to Your Escape (2004) in the "Hard Rock/Metal of the Year" category, and one nomination for their following album Come Clarity (2006) in the same category.
Filtered Truth
In Flames Lyrics

So I was told
All for one, one for none
When it's time
You know this could never be justified
But still
You take the hatred home
Is this what you were searching for
The wounded and the filtered truth
Don't ignore a life that's real
How come you feel so alone
Is it the rage inside
Wipes away
The rage inside
You're battered against the world
You knew
A place to hide from everything
And it had to make you fall
How come you feel so alone
Is it the rage inside
Wipes away
The rage inside
How come you feel so alone
Is it the rage inside
Wipes away
The rage inside
How come you feel so alone
Is it the rage inside
Wipes away
The rage inside
In Flames’s song Filtered Truth reflects on the idea of unity and how we are all in this together, a message that has been spread throughout the world during the pandemic. The lyrics suggest that this message may not always hold true, because as the song says, “All for one, one for none.” The first stanza leaves an impression that we are all in this together, emphasizing the importance of unity. The following lines, “You take the hatred home,” imply that one may take home anger and frustration, disrupting the message of unity.
The chorus reflects on the idea of searching for wounded and filtered truth, inspired by our suffering. It begs the listener to not ignore a life that is real. The second verse suggests that sometimes we may lose sight of the unity message and feel incredibly alone, due to pent-up rage inside. This rage is so strong that it "wipes away the rage inside." The song then ends with the same chorus, reinforcing that idea that sometimes we may lose sight of our unity and feel alone, but we must always stay true to our real lives and not let anger and frustration overtake us.
