Incubus is a five-man alternative rock band formed in 1991, based in Calabasas, California. Members include Brandon Boyd (vocals and percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Ben Kenney (bass), Jose Pasillas II (drums) and DJ Chris Kilmore (turntables). Former members of the band include Gavin Koppel (a.k.a. DJ Lyfe) (turntables) and Alex Katunich (a.k.a. Dirk Lance) (bass). The band's name may seem a peculiar choice to fans, as an incubus is a type of demon that, in mythological lore, comes in the night and has sex with women while they are sleeping; it seduces them in their dreams The story behind the name is that the band needed to think of a name hours before their first show and, after a few failed choices, Mike looked in a dictionary and chose "Incubus" almost at random. Mike says that the name was chosen because it sounded silly; Brandon holds that it was chosen because they were teenagers and the definition had the word "sex" in it. "We really didn't want to rape women in their sleep. But, we were fifteen and it seemed harmless to us then, and we never changed it," says the band.
Incubus has received both critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching multi-platinum sales, as well as releasing several successful singles. The band earned mainstream recognition with the release of their 1999 album Make Yourself. In 2001, Incubus became even more successful with the single "Drive" and their follow-up album Morning View. Their sixth studio album, Light Grenades, debuted at No. 1 in 2006 and has received Gold certification in the U.S. Incubus released their first greatest hits album Monuments and Melodies in June 2009, accompanied by a tour of the United States, Japan and Canada. The band's most recent album, 8, was released on April 21st, 2017.

Quicksand
Incubus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It won't rest until there's nothing left
Maybe ever and anon
I forget about the pain
Someone bending light comes along
And flowers lean towards the sun
Some people fall in love and touch the sky
Some people fall in love and find quicksand
I can't make up my mind
The lyrics to Incubus's song Quicksand are intriguing and open to interpretation. On the surface, the song seems to explore the often-disorienting nature of love and romance. The singer begins by acknowledging that a "monster" has been awakened within him. This could be a reference to his passions, desires or the intense feelings that love can provoke. Whatever the case may be, this monster refuses to rest until there is nothing left. This could symbolize the all-consuming nature of love and how it can completely take over our lives, leaving us with little else.
The next stanza seems to suggest that the singer is trying to forget about the pain caused by this monster. He talks about how sometimes "someone bending light comes along". This could be interpreted as a metaphor for someone who brings clarity or insight into his life – perhaps a mentor, a friend or a therapist. And then he observes how "the flowers lean towards the sun". This could be symbolic of his own longing for connection and renewal.
The final stanza is perhaps the most poignant. The singer acknowledges that some people "touch the sky" when they fall in love, while others "find quicksand". He sees himself as hovering somewhere in between, unable to make up his mind. This juxtaposition creates a sense of ambiguity and confusion that many of us can relate to when it comes to matters of the heart. Overall, the song seems to be a meditation on the complexities of love and how it can evoke both joy and pain.
