Incubus is a five-man alternative rock band formed in 1991, based in Calabasas, California. Members include Brandon Boyd (vocals and percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Ben Kenney (bass), Jose Pasillas II (drums) and DJ Chris Kilmore (turntables). Former members of the band include Gavin Koppel (a.k.a. DJ Lyfe) (turntables) and Alex Katunich (a.k.a. Dirk Lance) (bass). The band's name may seem a peculiar choice to fans, as an incubus is a type of demon that, in mythological lore, comes in the night and has sex with women while they are sleeping; it seduces them in their dreams The story behind the name is that the band needed to think of a name hours before their first show and, after a few failed choices, Mike looked in a dictionary and chose "Incubus" almost at random. Mike says that the name was chosen because it sounded silly; Brandon holds that it was chosen because they were teenagers and the definition had the word "sex" in it. "We really didn't want to rape women in their sleep. But, we were fifteen and it seemed harmless to us then, and we never changed it," says the band.
Incubus has received both critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching multi-platinum sales, as well as releasing several successful singles. The band earned mainstream recognition with the release of their 1999 album Make Yourself. In 2001, Incubus became even more successful with the single "Drive" and their follow-up album Morning View. Their sixth studio album, Light Grenades, debuted at No. 1 in 2006 and has received Gold certification in the U.S. Incubus released their first greatest hits album Monuments and Melodies in June 2009, accompanied by a tour of the United States, Japan and Canada. The band's most recent album, 8, was released on April 21st, 2017.

And I, I can't help but ask myself
How much I let the fear take the wheel and steer?
It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately, I'm beginning to find that I
Should be the one behind the wheel
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I'll be there
So if I decide to waiver my
Chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive? Oh
It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately, I'm beginning to find that when I drive myself
My light is found
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I'll be there
Would you choose water over wine
And hold the wheel and drive?
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
I'll be there
The song Drive by Incubus explores the theme of taking control of one's life and choosing to face fears and uncertainties head-on rather than letting them control one's actions and steer them in a certain direction. The lyrics evoke a strong sense of contemplation and questioning, as the lead singer grapples with the idea of being in charge of his own destiny. The chorus "whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there, with open arms and open eyes, yeah" suggests a willingness to embrace whatever challenges or opportunities come his way with a positive and accepting attitude.
The first verse acknowledges the power of fear and uncertainty to take over one's thoughts and actions, but the singer questions how much control he is willing to give away to those negative emotions. The use of the metaphor of "taking the wheel" and "driving myself" symbolizes the idea of being in control and leading one's own life. The hesitation expressed in the second verse is relatable for many people who struggle with making important decisions and taking risks, but the final lines of the song are inspirational and empowering, suggesting that with determination and self-belief, anything is possible.
Overall, Drive is a powerful song that resonates with its universal themes of taking control of one's life and facing fears and uncertainties head-on. The lyrics are thought-provoking and inspiring, and the melody is infectious and catchy, making it a classic song of the early 2000s.
