After going their separate ways, and each converting to the Rastafari movement, they reunited in Kingston and formed a vocal group. Funding for their first album came in the form of a grant from the Twelve Tribes of Israel branch of Rastafari after Hugh Booth, a member of the Twelve Tribes, had overheard the three men singing in a wooded area outside Kingston. Apple and Wiss were living in the area, which they had converted into a home.
Israel Vibration recorded three albums; "The Same Song", "Unconquered People", and "Why You So Craven" before temporarily disbanding in 1981 after recording sessions for the latter were left incomplete. The three men moved to the United States to seek professional health care and escape the growing Dancehall movement in Jamaica. In 1988, Gary "Dr. Dread" Himmelfarb, founder of RAS Records, urged the trio to reunite and record an album. Skelly, Apple, and Wiss were flown to Washington, D.C. to record a new album at Lion and Fox Recording Studios. "Strength of my Life", the group's fourth album and first of 18 CD releases on the RAS label, was met with great praise and is considered one of the few post-golden era touchstones of the roots reggae genre.
In 1997, Apple Gabriel left the group to pursue a solo career. Skelly and Wiss continue to record albums and tour the world as Israel Vibration, backed by longtime associates Roots Radics.
Rumors Of War
Israel Vibration Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In this world of science, technology
Word leaders keep fighting over power
Yet they know not the time, place nor hour
Knowledge of mankind has increase
And still there aint no peace
Everywhere there is just war
A yaga yo yaga yoy
War on the land
War on the sea
War in the air
War everywhere
Just a rumours of war
Until there's no longer first class, second class of any nation
Class, race or creed
Everywhere there'll just be war
A yaga yo yag yoy
Just a rumours of war
In the song "Rumors of War" by Israel Vibration, the lyrics speak of the prevalence of war in the world, despite the advancement in technology and knowledge. The lyrics are a commentary on the state of the world, where world leaders continue to fight over power, resulting in wars and destruction in every corner of the earth. The nuclear energy mentioned in the song speaks to the destructive power of humanity's inventions, which, instead of being used for good, are weaponized, causing more death and destruction.
The lyrics also touch on the underlying reasons for wars, which are often rooted in class, race, and creed. The song argues that until the world is free of these divisions, there will continue to be wars. The idea being that as long as there are those considered "first class," "second class," and so on, conflicts will persist. Therefore, the song calls for unity and equality, where all nations, races, and classes are considered equal.
In summary, the song "Rumors of War" is a powerful critique of humanity's tendency towards war, stemming from the desire for power and fueled by divisions of class, race, and creed. The song calls for a world free of these divisions, where all humans are seen as equal, and peace can finally prevail.
