JD signed with EMI Music US Latin in November 2003 at the age of 15. Her debut album, Imperfecta/Imperfect, is a predominantly Spanish record which includes three English tracks, all penned by the young singer-songwriter. Not only does she write her own songs, but she plays a mean guitar and takes inspiration from Nirvana, Bob Marley and Enrique Bunbury. The debut was greeted with much fanfare by the media and critics (the Miami Herald declared it the best Latin album of the year of 2004, for instance), and it was indeed an impressive debut. Before the album was even recorded, she managed to grab the attention of the AOL. They created Impulsa, a program built around her, which is the Latin version of Breakers (the same program that helped launch Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch). They also recorded AOL Sessions, where JD's cover of Outkasts' "Hey Ya" debuted top 10 on their General Market chart in front of artists such as Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and the Beastie Boys.
In addition, she caught the eye of MTV US by grabbing a spot not only as an Advanced Warning artist in August 2004 but also on Discover & Download in February 2005. Natasha made the cover of Maxim en Espanol in October of 2005 at 17 years old and caused many waves by being the youngest girl to pose for the elite Mens magazine.
Most recently, she garnished three Latin Grammy nominations: Best New Artist, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for Lagrimas. All of this before the age of 18! With plans to record a follow up album in English, the future looks bright for this rising star.
Tan Cerca
JD Natasha Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Donde los sueños son real
Por la primera ves tengo paz
Why ahora se me escapa
No tengo nada mas que hacer
Pero llorar
No tengo nada mas que aguantar
why no quiero morir why seguir amando
Why no quiero amar why seguir llorando
Why no es posible olvidar tanto cuando
Era tan cerca pero tan lejos
Me mataste el sol
Why destruiste la razón
Cuando creía en amor
Fue el día cuando
Salio el sol
Why me divorcie de la oscuridad
why no quiero morir why seguir amando
Why no quiero amar why seguir llorando
Why no es posible olvidar tanto cuando
Era tan cerca pero tan lejos
The first verse of "Tan Cerca" by JD Natasha speaks of the singer's reluctance to leave a place where dreams come true and where they finally find some peace, after struggling with inner turmoil for a long time. However, despite feeling close to happiness, it still eludes them. The second verse speaks of the singer's emotional state - feeling like they have nothing else to do but cry and endure their pain, which they can only take out on their pillow. They express their dilemma about wishing to stop loving and end their pain, but not being able to forget about a person who was so close to them but ultimately out of reach.
In the next verse, JD Natasha sings about how the love the singer had believed in was destroyed by someone, making them lose all sense of reason and making them feel like they were better off without it. However, the day this happened was also the day they felt the sun was killed and they separated from the darkness, suggesting they were torn between two opposite emotions, the light and the dark. The song ends with the chorus once again emphasizing the singer's inability to let go of the love that was so close to them yet so far away.
