Conversation with Myself
Jason Mraz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just the same, well I think I'm right
Crazy how fast you're moving
As our friendship pays for your lonely night
This is a conversation with myself
It's okay to dance around it and have it your way
Don't believe in anything that's keeping you awake
I'm feeling all sentimental and feeling all thru my head
I'm feeling all very sexual but feeling all by myself instead
This is a conversation with myself
It's okay to dance around it and have it your way
Laugh about it, oh for goodness sake
Don't believe in anything that's keeping you awake
Loverboy, lovergirl,
You need a song to sleep to and morning to sleep thru
And have it your way.
You better have it your way with yourself.
You better have it your way anytime.
You better have it you way with yourself and only yourself
You better have it yours and baby you know that I'll have mine.
The lyrics to Jason Mraz's song Conversation with Myself is a monologue where he is talking to himself about his feelings and thoughts. The first stanza talks about how crazy he thinks he is for feeling a certain way, and how he believes he is right in feeling that way. He then talks about how fast emotions and friendships can change, and how sometimes it feels like he is paying for his own loneliness. Mraz then informs the listeners that the song is a conversation with himself.
The second stanza tells us that it is okay to dance around our feelings, have it our way, and not believe in things that keep us awake at night. He then talks about how he feels sentimental and sexual, but he is feeling this by himself. The repetition of how this is a conversation with himself signifies how much he is dealing with his emotions alone.
The last stanza talks about how everyone needs to have it their way, and not be ashamed of that. He emphasizes that people need to have it their way with themselves, and only then can we truly have it our way. The song is a reminder that it is important to reflect on one's feelings and thoughts, even when it is uncomfortable and brings up difficult emotions.
