Out Of My Hands

How romantic, but I knew we were done
Was it something I said, something I did
It must be over my head, I didn't quite understand it
But now it's out of my hands, it's out of my hands
I'm sorry for the way you must feeling about yourself, every day
Was it something I said, something I did
It must be over my head, I didn't quite understand it
But now it's out of my hands, it's out of my hands
When it feels like life has gotten out of control
When it feels like there's much too much to hold
When it feels like too much to understand
Know, that it's out of your hands, out of your hands, out of your hands
Know, that it's out of your hands, out of your hands, out of your hands
Was it something I said, something I did
It must be over my head, I didn't quite understand but
Now it's out of my hands, it's out of my hands
When it feels like life has gotten out of control
When it feels like there's much too much to hold
When it feels like too much to understand
Know, that it's out of your hands, out of your hands, out of your hands
Know, that it's out of your hands, out of your hands, out of your hands
The song "Out of My Hands" by Jason Mraz is a reflection on a failed romantic relationship. The song begins with vivid imagery of the lover walking away into the sun, which, despite its romanticism, implies an end to the relationship. The singer expresses regret and confusion, wondering if it was something they said or did that caused the breakup, but acknowledging that it's now out of their control.
The chorus consists of a repetitive phrase that encompasses the central message of the song: "When it feels like life has gotten out of control / When it feels like there's much too much to hold / When it feels like too much to understand / Know, that it's out of your hands." The song suggests that sometimes situations spiral out of our control, and the best we can do is recognize that we can't change them and release them from our grasp.
The final verse brings the lyric full circle, repeating the same questions from the first verse, but this time with a sense of acceptance. The singer no longer needs to understand why the relationship ended or even to take responsibility for it. The recognition that some circumstances are beyond our control is both empowering and humbling.
Overall, "Out of My Hands" is a message of surrender – not in the sense of giving up, but rather in the recognition that some things are beyond our power and that accepting this fact can be a source of liberation.
