The Right Kind

And she wasn't satisfied at the rate that she applied herself
To the items on the shelf, she was a retail girl
And that really has to do with nothing
though she gave me something
A smile I'll rely on for a lifetime I'd try on for awhile
She believes in higher energy and better things for all the people
She is a charm of good luck when she's sitting by your side
But I think my luck run out on april twenty five
Oh love, oh love is all I'm looking for
Sitting in the corner in the dark
Hoping that she'd eye me, I'm looking right her way
But I'd never find the right thing to say
I'd never find the right kind of phrase
There was a secret somebody
Of course I never get the upper hand
Those kinds of rare finds are all born with a man
I just don't understand how they can
Oh love, oh love is all I'm looking for
Sitting in the corner in the dark and on the floor
Hoping that she'd spy on me, I'm looking right her way
I'd never find the right kind of phrase
The right kind, the right line, or the right time to say almost anything that's right
the right kind of phrase.
I'd never find the right thing to say
The lyrics of Jason Mraz's song "The Right Kind" tell the story of a girl who comes from a close distance, but feels unsatisfied with her life and the way she applies herself. She is depicted as a retail girl, which seems to be a metaphor for her feeling trapped and unfulfilled in her everyday routine. Despite this, the singer acknowledges that she gave him something valuable - her smile. He cherishes this smile and considers it something he can rely on for a lifetime, even if it's only for a while.
The lyrics then shift to the girl getting married on April 25th. The singer mentions that she believes in higher energy and better things for people, portraying her as someone who has a positive outlook on life and is seen as a charm of good luck when she's around. However, despite hoping to catch her attention, the singer feels unlucky and unable to find the right words or phrases to express his feelings towards her.
Overall, the song seems to revolve around the singer's longing for love and connection, particularly with this girl who has made an impact on him. It explores the frustration and uncertainty of trying to find the right words to convey emotions and establish a connection.
