What You Want
Jean Michel Jarre Lyrics

What you need
What you need
What you want
What you need

I can't believe you still follow in line
I roll you over, I get you behind
Give me a sign, I changed your mind
Pleasure is never a passionate crime
What you want
What you want
What you want
What you got
What you got, what you need
What you want
What you want
What you want
What you got
What you got

Don't you dismiss this, you'll miss this, you'll see
Moments are leading to my little deed
Feeling me feed, feeling so free
Watching you quiver with weakening knee
What you want
What you want
What you got
What you got, what you need
What you want
What you want
What you got

What you got, what you need
I can't believe you still follow in line
I roll you over, I get you behind
Give me a sign, I changed your mind
Pleasure is never a passionate crime
Don't you dismiss this, you'll miss this, you'll see
Moments are leading to my little deed
Feeling me feed, feeling so free
Watching you quiver with weakening knee

What you want
What you want
What you want
What you got
What you got
What you want
What you want
What you got

What you got, what you need
(What you got)
(What yout got)
What you want
What you want
What you got

What you got, what you need
What you want
What you want

What you got
What you got, what you need

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jean Michel Jarre & Peaches's song "What You Want" are suggestive and seem to imply a sexual encounter. The repeated phrases "what you want" and "what you need" suggest that the two singers are communicating about what each other desires. The lines "I can't believe you still follow in line/ I roll you over, I get you behind" are particularly suggestive of a dominant/submissive dynamic in the encounter. The singer is taking control and the other person is following their lead.

The lines "pleasure is never a passionate crime" and "watching you quiver with weakening knee" further imply that the encounter is pleasurable and that the person is enjoying themselves. The singers are in the moment and seem to be enjoying the encounter. The closing line "what you got, what you need" suggests that the desires of the two people in the encounter have been fulfilled.

Overall, the song seems to be about a sexual encounter and the pleasure that can be found in fulfilling each other's desires. The lyrics are suggestive and open to interpretation, but they seem to imply a moment of passion and pleasure between two people.

Interesting stuff! around 50 years in you can't possibly expect a re-do of the same ideas on 'Oxygene' or 'Equinoxe'... the power of collaboration is one of the better trends in modern pop music and it's exciting to see an artist like Jarre employing it to such a ballsy degree.

+AmbroseCadwell AMEN:D

@nutster9000

+AmbroseCadwell We do need to see more collaboration, I was hugely disappointed that Ralf Hutter wasn't part of this. I wonder if there's any story to that, as I bet he would have been on Jarre's list.

@richardcochrane1966

I think there has been a problem inasmuch as Hutter has been involved in a long legal battle, suing another act over plagiarism of a Kraftwerk track - only recently resolved with Hutter losing.

@GlennFolkvord

JMJ was asked about Kraftwerk joining him, and while I am sure he respects their original work, he now thinks they are a "touring museum that does not create anything new". As a principle. I happen to agree. When I saw Kraftwerk in concert in 2016, after having seen them in 2004 and 1991, the concert was spectacular but boring. It was EXACTLY as I expected it to be, and that is not creative.

@67EHC

En casi todos los trabajos de JMJ hay un tema que debería caer en el olvido, éste es uno de ellos.

@Monegritosmdf

+67EHC me encanta este temaaa!!!!!!!

Lo importante es que el nuevo disco sale pasado mañana.

@enkikesaurus

Mal!! TODOS los temas de Jarre son para recordar... eso si eres un verdadero fan... si eres de los pocos elegidos...

Solo los genios tienen derecho a equivocarse, incluso el divino JMJ.
