Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus fructos ventri tui Jesus
Santa Maria, Santa Maria
Maria, ora pro nobis
Nobis pecatoribus
Nunc et in ora
(Santa Maria, Santa Maria)
Maria, ora pro nobis
Nobis pecatoribus
Nunc et in ora
In ora mortis nostrae
Amen, Amen
The lyrics of "Ave Maria" by Jim Brickman are written in Latin and follow the traditional Catholic prayer to the Virgin Mary. The song begins with the phrase "Ave Maria" which translates to "Hail Mary" and is a common Catholic prayer that is said during the Rosary. The next line, "gratia plena, dominus tecum," means "full of grace, the Lord is with you," and acknowledges Mary's holiness and her role as the mother of Jesus.
The following line, "Benedicta tu in mulieribus," translates to "blessed are you among women" and highlights Mary's exceptional status among all women. The next phrase, "et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus," means "and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus," brings attention to the importance of Jesus' birth and Mary's role as his mother. The song ends with a plea to Mary to pray for us sinners, especially in the time of our own death.
Overall, "Ave Maria" is a song of praise and devotion to the Virgin Mary, acknowledging her as the mother of Jesus and asking for her intercession in our lives. The song highlights the importance of Mary as a mediator between God and humanity, emphasizing her role as a compassionate and merciful figure who can aid us in times of need.
