Amazing Grace
Jim Brickman Lyrics

That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
Tears, grace have brought me safe thus far
I was blind but now I see
The lyrics above are from Jim Brickman's version of the beloved hymn "Amazing Grace." The song reflects on the beauty of the grace of God and the positive impact it can have on one's life. The initial verse speaks about the power of grace to save someone who is otherwise undeserving. The phrase "saved a wretch like me" emphasizes how the singer recognizes their own faults and the fact that it is through grace that they are redeemed. This redemption is further shown in the fourth line when the singer declares they were blind, but now they can see. In this sense, the singer is reborn and renewed.
The second verse talks about the struggles and hardships that a person has faced in their life. The phrase "through many dangers, toils, and snares" speaks to the obstacles that a person has faced on their journey. However, the singer acknowledges that grace has accompanied them all along and has led them to safety. This metaphor represents the belief that even in difficult times, one is still being watched over by a higher power. The verse comes full circle to the second half of the opening verse - grace is still leading the singer home.
