See You Tomorrow
John Powell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm gonna take a freight train, down at the station
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb me a mountain, the highest mountain, Lord,
Gonna jump off, nobody gonna know

Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me
I'm gonna find me a hole in the wall, gonna crawl inside and die
That lady, mean ol' woman Lord, never told me goodbye

Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me

Gonna buy me a ticket now, as far as I can, ain't never comin' back
Take me Southbound, all the way to Georgia now, till the train run out of track

Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to John Powell's song "See You Tomorrow" tell the story of someone who is deeply hurt and betrayed by a woman in his life. He is so devastated that he decides to escape his current life and all the pain that comes with it. He starts by taking a freight train, not caring where it goes, and then climbing the highest mountain and jumping off, with no one to witness it. The pain is too much for him, and he is willing to die to escape it.

The second verse speaks about the same woman in his life who has caused him so much pain and never even told him goodbye. He wants to crawl into a hole in the wall and die, which shows how much pain he is in. The chorus repeats, with the singer again asking if anyone can see what this woman has been doing to him. The final verse speaks of him leaving and never coming back, taking a train all the way to Georgia until it runs out of tracks. The lyrics end on the same note of questioning the pain this woman has caused.

Overall, the lyrics to "See You Tomorrow" are about heartbreak and a need for escape that comes with such intense pain. The singer's need to leave everything behind and start anew is understandable in such a situation, and the lyrics are powerful in their portrayal of the depth of emotion involved in heartbreak.

My brother was one of the animators for this film. I'm so proud of him...he's the one who inspired me to also pursue animation <3

I've probably practiced the piece a hundred times; once it's pounded into your head it's difficult to miss. If you want an exceptional version check out Stephen Doherty and Zac Leger - Miami Reels. I think it's too spot on to not be intentional. I think it adds a brilliant characteristic to the piece!

I'd been looking for the name of that specific reel ("Touch Me if you Dare") since the first HTTYD movie came out, found it because of your comment!!! Tysm!!

Now I'm not a huge fan of pixar... but I have to admit that HTTYD is one of my favorite movies of all time. The story, animation and characters were all tied together perfectly into a production everyone can enjoy...
