Fools Rush In
Joni James Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I used to say
A game I thought I'd never play
"Romance is a game for fools"
I said and grinned
Then you passed by
And here am I
Throwing caution to the wind
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you, my love, my heart above my head.
Though I see the danger there
If there's a chance for me, then I don't care
Mm-mm-mm-mm
Fools rush in where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in
Fools rush in where wise men never, never, never go
Eh, but wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
Ah, when we met, girl, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in
Just open up your heart and let this fool rush on in
Just open up your heart because I-I-I-I-I-I-I am coming in
Open up your heart and let this fool rush in!
The song 'Fools Rush In' by Joni James speaks about how the singer thought they would never fall in love because romance is a game for fools. The singer believed that falling in love was dangerous because it could cause them to lose control and make bad decisions. However, that all changed when they saw the person they were meant to fall in love with. Even though they saw the danger of falling in love, they didn't care and decided to throw caution to the wind. They were ready and willing to take the risk and be with the person they love.
The song title 'Fools Rush In' is based on the proverbial saying "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread" which means that inexperienced or reckless people often go in where wise or experienced people avoid. The lyrics of the song stresses that fools rush in without thinking about the consequences because they're willing to gamble with their hearts. The singer is willing to risk everything for love even though they know it may not end well. The song also showcases how love can make a person feel alive and how it can force them to take chances that they didn't think were possible.

I'm often asked if the throbbing, nearly overwhelming passages in Joni's otherwise soft, restrained performances were accomplished at the control board or she really did song with that power and volume when moved to. Well, I can tell you she sounded and sounds exactly the same in performance. In fact, she didn't like recording gimmicks and stayed away from them. What you hear is Joni as she sang the song in the studioi. One hundred per cent the real thing!
