He comes from a Jewish family that fled persecution in Germany. He studied to become an otolaryngologyst (i.e., ear, throat, and nose doctor) like his parents but ultimately chose to pursue his passion for music.
Drexler made his full-length album debut with La Luz Que Sabe Robar (1992), followed by Radar (1994). In hopes of furthering his career, he went to Spain in 1995 upon the invitation of legendary singer/songwriter Joaquín Sabina , who showed him around the Madrid music scene and helped him secure an international recording contract. So impressed with Madrid that he chose to make his permanent residency there, Drexler got together with a band of Spanish musicians to re-record material from his first two albums along with new material and release it internationally as Vaivén (1996), the first of four albums on Virgin España. The highlights of Vaivén along with those of its three follow-ups, Llueve (1998), Frontera (1999), and Sea (2001), were later compiled on the best-of compilation La Edad Del Cielo (2004).
Upon his switch to the Dro Atlántic label, Drexler's career reached new heights of success with the critically acclaimed Eco (2004). Most notably, the album includes the Oscar-winning song ''Al Otro Lado Del Río'', which was prominently featured during the closing credits of the Walter Salles film The Motorcycle Diaries (2004).
Eco proved so successful, in fact, that it was re-released with bonus material as Eco² (2005). Subsequent albums include 12 Segundos de Oscuridad (2006), the double-disc live album Cara B (2008), and Amar la Trama (2010).
No Pienses De Mas
Jorge Drexler Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cuando te quedes sola
No pienses de más
No dejes pasar las horas
La vida es así
Cambia el viento
Cambia la estación
Una razón
No pienses de más
No esperes de mí
Que venga y te lleve lejos
No esperes por mí
Yo no puedo dar consejos
No me hagas hablar
No te traigo más
Que esta canción
Yo no entiendo
Ni a mi corazón
No pienses de más
No me escuches
No ves que estoy dolido
No me sigas
Yo también estoy perdido
Y no todo se ve
Mirando por una lupa
No todo se ve
No sé de quien fué la culpa
Nunca lo sabrás
Cambia el viento
Cambia la estación
No siempre se encuentra
Una razón
No pienses de más
The song "No Pienses de Mas" by Jorge Drexler is a poignant reflection on the unpredictability of life and relationships. The lyrics suggest that the singer is speaking to someone who is feeling alone and possibly overwhelmed by their circumstances. The repeated refrain, "no pienses de más" ("don't overthink it"), serves as a reminder that sometimes there are no easy answers or clear explanations for difficult situations.
The song's opening lines urge the listener to avoid getting lost in their own thoughts when they find themselves alone. Instead of dwelling on what might be wrong, they should accept that life is full of changes and uncertainties. The lines "la vida es así / cambia el viento / cambia la estación" ("life is like that / the wind changes / the seasons change") highlight the impermanence of everything and the futility of trying to control it.
Later in the song, the singer acknowledges his own limitations and inability to offer solutions to the listener's problems. He cautions against relying too heavily on others for guidance, as they too are fallible and flawed. The final lines drive home the message that sometimes there simply aren't any explanations or resolutions: "nunca lo sabrás / cambia el viento / cambia la estación / no siempre se encuentra una razón" ("you'll never know / the wind changes / the seasons change / you don't always find a reason").
Overall, "No Pienses de Mas" is a gentle and reflective song that encourages listeners to accept the uncertainties of life and relationships, and not to get bogged down in searching for answers that may not exist.
