WHEEL IN THE SKY -
Journey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Winter is here again oh lord,
Haven't been home in a year or more
I hope she holds on a little longer
Sent a letter on a long summer day
Made of silver, not of clay
I've been runnin' down this dusty road

Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

I've been trying to make it home
Got to make it before too long
I can't take this very much longer
I'm stranded in the sleet and rain
Don't think I'm ever gonna make it home again
The mornin' sun is risin'
It's kissin the day

Oh the wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

I don't' know where I'll be tomorrow
Ooo the wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Journey's song "Wheel in the Sky" evoke the feeling of longing for home while being stranded in distant places. The opening line, "Winter is here again oh Lord," sets the tone of the song and conveys the feeling of being stuck in a cold, barren place. The singer hasn't been home for a year or more and hopes that his loved ones will hold on a little longer. The line "Made of silver, not of clay" has an allusion to the Bible, where silver represents redemption and clay represents sin. The singer sends a letter on a long summer day, highlighting the passage of time and how difficult it is for him to be separated from his home.

The chorus emphasizes the feeling of uncertainty and the unknown future. The wheel in the sky serves as a metaphor for the unpredictable nature of life, and the fact that the singer doesn't know where he'll be tomorrow highlights the sense of being lost and the longing for a stable home. The line "I've been trying to make it home, Got to make it before too long" emphasizes the urgency and desperation of the singer to find his way back home. The song is a journey, both physical and emotional, that captures the essence of longing, uncertainty and hope.

So you were a fan of Journey before Steve joined? I just learned recently that they had 3 albums before him! I agree Steve Perry is UNRIVALED, but the guy touring with them since 2008 and currently, is actually really good!
