After releasing a demo in 1995, their first release was the self-titled EP Kampfar, by Season of Mist in 1996 followed by full length Mellom skogkledde aaser by Malicious Records in 1997. Being a studio band, without spending time on live shows or tours and with no intentions to slow down they released another EP Norse in 1998, and full length Fra underverdenen in 1999 both on Hammerheart Records. Then there were 7 years of studio silence although they began to play their first live shows in 2004.
Signing to Napalm records, they released three full length albums on that label: Kvass (2006), Heimgang (2008), & Mare (2011). All were well received by critics and listeners alike. Thus completed their contract with Napalm.
Their next releases were two singles leading up to their sixth full length album, 2014's Djevelmakt released by Indie Recordings.

Kampfar Lyrics

Nеr dagen den ebber og aftenen synker
Nеr mеnen trer frem under mшrkets bue
Stiger ondskapens huldreland
Vakre huldreland
Ondskapens huldreland
Sagnet om huldreland
Vakre huldreland
Ondskapens huldreland
Diabolske huldreland
Djevelsang fra dypet
Under hatets mеne
De dшde driver til land
Under hatets mеne
Ved den sorte bergkongens trone
Stiger bergkongens dunkle borg.
The lyrics to the song "Huldreland" by Kampfar depict a dark and ominous world that exists in the depths of the underworld. The song speaks of the rise of this evil land as the day comes to a close and the moon emerges in the sky. This is the moment when the creatures of this malevolent realm start to emerge and wander. The song continues to describe the beauty of this land, in spite of the viciousness that it represents.
As the lyrics progress, there is a sort of chant that develops, calling forth this malevolent realm, that is both enticing and menacing. The song continues with a reference to the dead that are drawn to the land, finally culminating in the rise of the dark castle of the king of the underworld, sitting upon a black throne. The dark and foreboding text combined with the powerful and haunting music create an eerie and captivating atmosphere that draws the listener into the world of the song.
