Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kampfar's song Volvevers are cryptic and enigmatic, leaving much to interpretation. The verses evoke images of nature and the elements: slow falls, animal skulls, rushing waterfalls, mud and weeds. Pagan symbols and motifs are also present, like the dragedokke (dragon doll), the gandekult (spirit cult) and the galgerbakke (gallows hill).

The chorus, "Hшr! Visdomskall Volvevers" (Listen! Wisdom skulls of the seeresses), could be seen as a call to ancestral knowledge and a connection to the divine. The last two lines of the chorus, "Smak av siste kamp, syn av svartstank" (Taste of the last battle, vision of black stench), add to the ominous and foreboding tone of the song, hinting at a struggle and a final reckoning.

Overall, Volvevers seems to be a spiritual and existential meditation on mortality, nature, and ancestral heritage, with a touch of pagan mysticism and mythology.
