Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

You're seconds from destroying me
I've said my last goodbye
Now someone get me outta here
Can't take another lie
Stop telling me who I should be
'Cause I don't wanna go where you're going
So I'm cold as stone
The only way I know
To keep my soul
And never let it show
That I don't really know what I'm doing
All I know is I'm crashing down
So let me, let me out
I can't love you anymore
Let me, let me out
I don't love you like before
Let me, let me
I don't love you
Let me, let me
Never felt so lonely
There you're standing, next to me
I always feel so empty
When you promise you won't leave
Every time you hold me
I run away so I can breathe
You can't even hear me when I'm screaming
Trying to say you're way out of line
So I'm cold as stone
The only way I know
To keep my soul
And never let it show
I'm cold as stone (cold)
So let me, let me out
I can't love you anymore
Let me, let me out
I don't love you like before
Let me, let me
I don't love you
Let me, let me
Don't love you like before
I was wearing my heart on my sleeve
Before when I used to be down on my knees
It's funny, how clearly I see
I was trying, oh so desperately
So let me, let me out
I can't love you anymore
Let me, let me out
I don't love you like before
So let me, let me out
I can't love you anymore
Let me, let me out
I don't love you like before
Let me, let me
I don't love you
Let me, let me
I don't love you like before
Let me, let me
I don't love you
Let me, let me
I don't love you like before
"Cold as Stone" is a powerful and heartbreaking song that appears to be about the end of a relationship that has become toxic and suffocating. The singer is at a breaking point and knows she needs to get out for her own sanity and wellbeing. She can see the destruction that her partner is causing her and is desperately trying to break free. She knows that it's over and that she can no longer continue with the lies and the facade, but her partner is refusing to let her go. The singer is forced to shut herself off emotionally, becoming "cold as stone" to protect herself from the hurt and pain she has been feeling.
Throughout the song, the singer speaks of wanting to leave and not loving her partner anymore but is not being able to do so. She feels lonely even when with her partner, and there is a lack of emotional connection, which is causing her distress. The song has a powerful and emotional chorus that portrays the inner turmoil the singer is feeling. She desperately wants to break free, but her partner is holding her back, making her feel like she can't change her mind.
This song beautifully captures the pain and heartbreak that many people feel when they know that a relationship is no longer working. It reminds us that sometimes letting go is the best option to protect our emotional wellbeing and that it is okay to be "cold as stone" to protect ourselves from the hurt that comes with being in a toxic relationship.

I see it in your eyes
I can tell from your gaze
You're seconds from destroying me
You're extremely close to ruining me
I've said my last goodbye
I've now parted with you for good
Now someone get me outta here
I need to leave this place
Can't take another lie
I can't handle another falsehood
Stop telling me who I should be
Quit trying to dictate who I am
'Cause I don't wanna go where you're going
I don't want to follow the same path as you
You're telling me I can't change my mind
You're insisting I can't change my opinion
So I'm cold as stone
I'm emotionally hardened
The only way I know
This is the sole method I have
To keep my soul
To preserve my inner self
And never let it show
And never reveal my emotions
That I don't really know what I'm doing
That I'm unsure of what I'm doing
All I know is I'm crashing down
I only know that things are falling apart
So let me, let me out
Allow me to leave
I can't love you anymore
I can't continue loving you
I don't love you like before
My feelings for you have changed
Never felt so lonely
I've never been this alone
There you're standing, next to me
You're right beside me
I always feel so empty
I frequently feel void of emotion
When you promise you won't leave
When you assure me that you won't depart
Every time you hold me
Whenever you embrace me
I run away so I can breathe
I flee to catch my breath
You can't even hear me when I'm screaming
You are deaf to my cries
Trying to say you're way out of line
Attempting to make you see that you're going too far
I was wearing my heart on my sleeve
In the past, I was showing my emotions openly
Before when I used to be down on my knees
When I used to be begging for your love
It's funny, how clearly I see
It's strange how evident things now are
I was trying, oh so desperately
I was trying so hard
Let me, let me
Please, allow me
Don't love you like before
I no longer feel the same way about you
Let me, let me
Please, allow me
I don't love you like before
I don't have the same feelings for you
Let me, let me
Please, allow me
I don't love you
I don't love you anymore
Let me, let me
Please, allow me
I don't love you like before
I don't feel the same way about you anymore
