Distance
Kaskade Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've had enough of this long distance
So I'm driving down to see you for the day
Stay awhile… see your smile
And when it's time to go
You give me a kiss before I get away

In spite of the obvious
The distance of the cry
We want to get on with us
But it's only by and by
That we discern the me from we
Giving only selflessly

So I've had the time to think about things driving
But I'm not sure just how clear my thoughts have been

Distance makes my thinking more erratic than the norm
Missing you knows nowhere... just when

Overall Meaning

Kaskade's song "Distance" is a longing expression for the desire to be physically close with someone. The lyrics begin with the singer expressing frustration over the concept of long-distance relationships. But, the singer is willing to put forth the effort to overcome the distance. In an effort to be with the one he loves, the singer will go through extreme measures just to see their smile. The narrative then continues, saying that despite the difficulty of being so far apart, they realize the importance of getting through this trying time. It is through this struggle that the couple discovers the deeper meaning of their relationship: a give and take of selflessness. Although being apart is tough, it is through this separation that they come to fully understand the true meaning of love.

In the second half of the song, the singer reflects on their journey with his thoughts becoming more erratic the further he gets from the one he loves. Despite the difficulty of being apart, the longing for the missing of one another brings both parties immense joy. The song captures the emotions of trying to maintain a long-distance relationship and the overwhelming feeling of just wanting to be able to hold, kiss, and be near the one you love.
