Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

I said what the hell
And then I thought you were gone
But I knew you were too good
And I said to myself let me go
And I said to myself let me go
In a field that I sleep in
Working a feeling
And no, I can't keep it
And I'm over it
Let me go
You were looking at me
like you knew I was weak
But the harder I try
The more I let you win
And I said to myself let me go
And I said to myself let me go
'Cause you're burning a bridge
In a field that I sleep in
Working a feeling
And no, I can't keep it
I'm over it
'Cause I feel like a fool when I walk through your fire
I need you to bruise cause I'm sick and I'm tired
Do you hear me now?
Do you hear me now?
Let me go, let me go
Let me go, let me go
Let me go
The lyrics to Kaskade's song "Let Me Go" talk about a toxic relationship from the singer's perspective. The song starts with the singer observing his own reflection and feeling bewildered by his situation. He knows that he should move on, but he can't. He feels like he's stuck and is unable to let go of the person he's with.
As the song progresses, the singer talks about how the other person is burning a bridge in a field that he sleeps in. This could be a metaphor for how the other person is destroying something that is important to the singer. The singer keeps trying to resist but keeps losing to the other person's manipulations. He feels like he's a fool for staying in this situation and needs the other person to hurt him so that he can leave. In the end, the singer pleads to be set free and let go.
Overall, the song is about being in a situation where you know you should leave, but you can't. It talks about the struggle one goes through in a toxic relationship and how hard it can be to break free.

When I looked at myself
Upon self-reflection,
I said what the hell
I was disappointed with my current situation
And then I thought you were gone
I believed you had left my life
But I knew you were too good
But deep down, I recognized your worth
And I said to myself let me go
I made a decision to move on from this situation
‘Cause you're burning a bridge
You are destroying the connection between us
In a field that I sleep in
Within an area that I am vulnerable
Working a feeling
Manipulating my emotions
And no, I can't keep it
I cannot continue to sustain this dynamic
And I'm over it
I have moved past this situation
You were looking at me
I noticed your gaze upon me
like you knew I was weak
as if you were aware of my vulnerabilities
But the harder I try
Despite my efforts
The more I let you win
I continue to succumb to your influence
’Cause I feel like a fool when I walk through your fire
I feel foolish when I engage with you
I need you to bruise 'cause I'm sick and I'm tired
I crave a negative experience with you because I am drained
Do you hear me now?
Are you listening to me?
Let me go, let me go
I implore you to release me from this situation
Let me go, let me go
I ask again to be freed from this turmoil
Let me go
Please allow me to move on
