After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin. After adopting the stage name 'Katy Perry' and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her second album, One of the Boys, a pop rock record containing the controversial U.S number one song "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold". Three subsequent albums have topped the U.S. Billboard 200. The disco-influenced Teenage Dream (2010) spawned five chart-topping U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles–"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" — a record tying her with Michael Jackson's "Bad". Its follow-up record Prism (2013) was inspired by her divorce, and incorporates pop and dance along with themes of self-reflection, everyday life, and relationships. With the music videos for its chart-topping songs "Roar" and "Dark Horse", Perry became the first artist to have multiple videos reach one billion views on Vevo. Her 2017 electropop album, 'Witness' featured a political subtext and a theme of liberation. Her sixth studio album 'Smile' followed in 2020.
Perry has nine U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and has received various awards, including four Guinness World Records, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and a Juno Award. She has been included in the annual Forbes lists of highest-earning women in music from 2011 to 2019. Her estimated net worth as of 2016 is $125 million. Perry is one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 18 million albums and 125 million singles worldwide. In film, she released an autobiographical documentary titled "Katy Perry: Part of Me" in 2012, and voiced Smurfette in the 2011 film The Smurfs and its sequel in 2013. Her Super Bowl halftime show performance is the most watched in history. Perry also began serving as a judge on American Idol in 2018.
Mind Maze
Katy Perry Lyrics

Slipping into quicksand
I've shattered the illusion, seen behind the curtain
I'm disenchanted
Dancing on a wire
Juggling desire
Every hit gets harder when you're fighting without armor
I'm disheartened
Do I start over, rediscover?
Submit to the sweet surrender
It's a mind maze
All these head games
Caught in a cage
A complex cage
Am I a car on fire?
Will I be devoured?
I gotta free myself and get out of my own way
I used to be so sparkling, but now it's not so charming
What used to stimulate me now can barely wake me
I'm unresponsive
Will I find salvation, some kind of moderation?
Spinning all these plates is gonna be a challenge
A delicate balance
So do I start over, rediscover?
Submit to the sweet surrender
It's a mind maze
All these head games
Caught in a cage
A complex cage
Am I a car on fire?
Will I be devoured?
I gotta free myself and get out of my own way
Get out of my own way
Get out of my own way
Get out of my own way
Do I start over, rediscover?
I submit to your, your sweet surrender
Your sweet surrender
Your sweet surrender
No
matter how successful or perfect one may seem, they can experience moments of confusion and doubt in their life journey, which is explored in Katy Perry's "Mind Maze." In the first verse, Perry describes feeling lost and trapped in quicksand, as she struggles to find direction and purpose in her life. She reveals that the veil has been lifted, and she has seen behind the curtain, referring to the illusions and ideals that she previously believed in. She speaks to the difficulty of balancing her desires and passions while fighting against the challenges that come with it, as it can take an emotional toll on her.
In the chorus, Perry emphasizes how challenging it can be to navigate one's own mind, as it can feel like being caught in a complex cage filled with head games. She questions whether she is a car on fire, which could signal that she may damage herself or others in the process of trying to find herself. She recognizes the importance of freeing herself and getting out of her own way, acknowledging that sometimes the greatest obstacle we face is ourselves.
In the second verse, Perry recognizes that what used to excite her no longer does, and she is left feeling unresponsive as a result. She ponders whether there is a way for her to find balance and salvation, acknowledging that finding a solution will be a challenge. Once again, she considers whether starting over and rediscovering herself is the best course of action. In the end, Perry submits to the idea of surrendering to a higher power, and accepting that there are some things beyond her control.

@Punchykat
I've come to really appreciate this song and the auto-tune. It's actually really fitting to the meaning of the song and personally, it gives me the illusion of her connecting and disconnecting or being torn between two realities.
@nabile4895

@benjabustamante7309
Yes! many people hate the autotune in this song and i heard that maybe it is a way of ¨hiding herself¨ as she is saying very personal things about her

The thing is that Katycat, even if you not admitted it is a very weak fandom. Just sayin unlike army and swifties who are even along the wars are strong. That's the good thing in fandom that I wish Katycat acted.
@triaquino1362
Haircut. People are weird.
