Bloodshot is an amazing label. Grievous Angels are great. They're a home town for me, coming from Phoenix. There's also a Canadian Grievious Angels from the 80s that were also alt country in the vein of Graham Parsons. Lydia Loveless, Scott H. Biram, Sarah Shook, Whitey Morgan...they're still releasing amazing records. Great video as always Hedley.

Thanks, mate. I got a bit confused when I found the other Grievous Angels in my research for this video. I must check them out. Shamefully, I'm not as up on recent Bloodshot artists as I would like to be. Whitey Morgan is someone I need to listen to more.

Fat City Vinyl

Well bloody hell, I went into this thinking I had never heard of this label but it turns out I have one of these records, namely Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker. Interesting to hear how much else was put out by Bloodshot, sounds like a real mix of outsider country influenced by other genres like punk and metal. Reminds me of the video of new rockabilly records put out by Dave, can't recall his channel name at the moment but this whole sort of alternative music scene you wouldn't even be aware of existing until someone points it out. I just heard the Sadies mentioned somewhere else just this morning actually, it's going to bug me remembering where now. I know the name but have not heard anything by them, I will have to keep an eye out. Appreciate the shout out, big up to record labels with "blood" in their names ;-)

Hedley, loved this record and a lot of the stuff you showed is killer! I never knew Bloodshot originally put out Ryan Adams "Heartbreaker". Those original LP's are super hard to find and very pricey in nice condition. What, no Whitey Morgan & the 78's??

I kind of fell off the Bloodshot wagon just as these newer artists started to turn up. Whitey Morgan is someone I need to listen to more of. Mind you, he's quite different to what Bloodshot used to do. He's lacking the insurgent element, and is kind of straight ahead outlaw country. Not a bad thing at all, but not what I look to Bloodshot for. Much of their newer output has edged closer to the country mainstream. Interestingly, Ryan Adam's Heartbreaker wasn't released on vinyl in the States by Bloodshot, instead there was an imported UK Cooking Vinyl pressing.

Uncle Harry

Fantastic video: a lot of artists I've never heard of. In April I've got a big record Fair in Utrecht and will definitely  look for some cds on this label.!!!

Hi Hedley wow this was a great video!! I'm sorry to say I knew nothing of what you've shown( well the old 97s and my morning jacket) but man I do now thank you for getting all this great info together I for one appreciate it! Very well done... take care and have a good one--- Lis

Thanks, Lis. There's some wonderful music to be explored. It's a shame they didn't release their albums on vinyl. They did have quite a few 7" singles, but you can't find them anywhere.

This was a bit of a trip down memory lane for me. I live a couple of hours away from Chicago, and during the 90's and early 2000's a lot of these acts frequently played in my area in little bars and outdoor festivals - Wayne Hancock and Robbie Fulks especially. Robbie used to often feature a cover of "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson in his performances. I most recently saw him last summer in a park a block from where I live - he's a nice personable guy. Nice video.

Cheers, Thomas. I've got quite a few Robbie Fulks albums, he's a great songwriter. I'm so pleased that after so long in the industry, he was finally recognised with a Grammy nomination.
