Daddies And Daughters
Kevin Fowler Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

From the moment that a baby girl
Is born into this world
A man starts to change, do crazy things
Like paintin' the bedroom pink

To hold somethin' so small and frail
Absolutely scares the hell
Out of any guy no matter how brave
He thinks he might be

When she looks up at him like he's Superman
She's got him in the palm of her hand

Daddies and daughters
Have somethin' no one else does
Unique and special kind of love
Is hard to explain how men
Tough as leather
Can turn to velvet when she smiles
Worlds apart as they may seem
There's nothin' like the love between
Daddies and and daughters

Before she even gets to second grade
He's already startin' to think
About all the boys, what's on their minds
'Cause he was one once too

She's sixteen and headed to the dance
He says, "You ain't goin' dressed like that"
She slams her door, starts to cry
Thinks he ain't got a clue

She'll finally understand it one day
She'll even see the love in his mistakes

Daddies and daughters
Have somethin' no one else does
Unique and special kind of love
Is hard to explain how men
Tough as leather
Can turn to velvet when she smiles
Worlds apart as they may seem
There's nothin' like the love between
Daddies and and daughters

No one she ever meets will ever be
Good enough for her for him

Daddies and daughters
Have somethin' no one else does
Worlds apart as they may seem

There's nothin' like the love between
Daddies and daughters

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kevin Fowler's song "Daddies And Daughters" celebrate the special bond between fathers and daughters. It talks about the transformation that takes place in a man when he becomes a father to a baby girl, and how he will do anything to protect and care for her, including painting the bedroom pink. The song acknowledges how intimidating it is for any man to hold something so small and delicate, but the love he has for his daughter overrides any fear he may have. The chorus of the song emphasizes the unique and special kind of love between fathers and daughters that is hard to explain.

As the daughter grows older, the dynamic between the father and daughter will change. The father becomes more protective and worried about the boys his daughter associates with. The daughter rebels against her father's overprotective nature and thinks he doesn't understand her. Despite the challenges they face, the chorus reminds us that there is nothing like the love between daddies and daughters, and the daughter will eventually come to appreciate the sacrifices and love her father has for her.

Overall, the song is a beautiful tribute to the meaningful and heartfelt connection between fathers and daughters. It highlights how this love, though often hidden between the tough exterior of men, is a powerful force and is something no one else can replicate.

I’m not a father but I am an uncle. I have three beautiful nieces. I will always remember the day when they were born. I went to the hospital and saw them in the nursery. When I held my first niece Sarah for the first time, one of her little hands reached up and touched my face. I almost cried. It just tugged at my heart so much. When I held my other nieces Emma and June, I was in heaven. Seeing those little faces just melted my heart. I love them so much.
