Fowler put together a country band in 1998 and began playing Tuesday nights at Babe's on Sixth Street in Austin. Within two years, he'd begun recording albums and struck big with his self-released Beer, Bait and Ammo (2000). The album sold around 30,000 copies in the Texas area and garnered an impressive amount of airplay, particularly for the album's title track. The song became somewhat of a Texas anthem; Mark Chesnutt made the song part of his live show, and Sammy Kershaw recorded it. Fowler returned in 2002 with his third album, High on the Hog, and boasted some impressive guests, including Willie Nelson and David Lee Garza.
That Girl

It looked just like a dream
My world stopped on a dime
When she hopped out of that jeep
All my Buddy said " Boy don't waste your time"
She's out of your league but I was out of my mind
That girl bare foot in a sun dress
Sweet smile singing to the summer of 69
That girl just a little crazy
Green eyed sweet child of Dixie
Everything I ever hoped I'd find in
That girl
They say some people never change
Girl I know its true
Cause you still turn me on
As much as you used to
And every time we touch
I'm still 17
And in my arms you'll always be.
That girl bare foot in a sun dress
Top down hair in a wild mess
Sweet smile singing to the summer of 69
That girl just a little crazy
Green eyed sweet child of Dixie
Everything I ever hoped I'd find in
That girl
That girl bare foot in a sun dress
Top down hair in a wild mess
Sweet smile singing to the summer of 69
That girl just a little crazy
Green eyed sweet child of Dixie
Everything I ever hoped I'd find in
That girl
In Kevin Fowler's song "That Girl," the singer describes an encounter with a girl who captivates him immediately. He describes the moment when they first meet, and he is struck by her carefree attitude and natural beauty. Initially, his friends warn him off, warning him that she's out of his league; but the singer's infatuation with her is too strong, and he knows that he must pursue her.
The song goes on to describe a reunion between the two, where it is revealed that they have a history together. Despite their time apart, the singer still feels the same way about her, with their relationship transcending time and age. The lyrics suggest that this girl is everything that he was looking for and dreamed of, and he feels lucky to have found her.
In general, the song is about the enviable feeling of connectedness and deep love that some people are lucky enough to have with someone special. The lyrics convey these feelings in a straightforward and honest way, and the song's country twang and upbeat rhythm further underscore these themes.
