Born in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo to a Congolese mother and Ghanaian father, Koffi grew up in Kinshasa.
He went to France to study, while in Paris, he began playing the guitar and writing songs. On his return to Congo he was a member of Viva la Musica, Papa Wemba's band. Koffi repopularized the slower style of soukous, which had fallen out of fashion. He dubbed this style Tcha Tcho, and it gained popularity outside Congo. Koffi's music can be quite controversial, taking on current events and topics considered taboo in some conservative societies. He has also participated in the salsa music project Africando.

Ekila ya monganga soki a pesi nga, ya ko liya ata munga eko sala rien
Régime ya dotceur soki a décider na melaka tî ezanga sukali problème ezala te
Mokili ango malgré ba pasi n'ango

Façon na lela ye vraiment bo yoka
Ata soki nzambe asaliaki fulu

Koffi Olomidé's song "G.B gros bébé" is a playful ode to a large and playful baby. The lyrics describe the singer's affection for the titular "gros bébé" and their endearing quirks, such as their love for Adeline and their attempts to imitate her beauty. The singer compares the child to various objects, such as a 'kitunga' (cooking pot) and a 'manso' (bench), to express their fullness and comfort. The song's chorus repeats the phrase "Gros bébé na nga" (My big baby) over and over again, further emphasizing the singer's love for the child.
The second verse includes lyrics about the singer's own life and struggles, but these are quickly pushed aside in favour of more descriptions of the "gros bébé"'s charming qualities. The third verse brings in religious imagery, with the singer describing their devotion to God and their belief that even if they were imprisoned, God would provide them with a lawyer to defend them. The final verse repeats the chorus and includes a reference to Adeline once again, cementing her importance in the singer's life.
