The title track «Pangea» - the first single from their upcoming album - shows a band who can still write anthems in Norwegian, and that easily can play at both big festival stages and at small village parties.
Kråkesølv’s music is still anchored in two guitars, bass, drums and lyrics written in their own dialect. But this time they have forced themselves to paint with a broader brush. «Pangea» shows a band challenging staid frameworks, and they are moving into landscapes that bands like Dungen and Radiohead have plowed before. But, as always, Kråkesølv land safely on their own Northern Norwegian feet.
The reason why Kråkesølv now are taking a different direction than before, is mainly due to their producer, Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist, Susanne Sundfør). In addition to producing, he has contributed in many ways, with giving good advice, with being a motivator and with playing instruments like piano, mellotron and vibraphone. Throughout the entire recording process, Horntveth has also been offering them fresh coffee and fiery cheers.
Their lyrics have the same melancholy character that has coloured Kråkesølv’s universe since their debut album, and they continue to make connections between interpersonal and universal matters.

Føttern går som virvelslag
Æ Burde tatt litt lengre steg
Men kroppen har en dårlig dag
Blodsmak modnes fint med åran
Akkurat som æ og du
Det e i hvert fall det æ håpa
Æ Spring vågøyvannet rundt
Men æ våga mæ ikke ut
På djupt vann
Høsten si velkommen etter
Våte sko og visne bla
Et mørke som gir rom førr tvil
Og retningsløse samtala
Æ Spring vågøyvannet rundt
Men æ våga mæ ikke ut
På djupt vann
Blodsmak modnes fint med åran
Akkurat som æ og du
Det va i hvert fall det æ håpa
Ska æ fortsett eller snu
The lyrics to Kråkesølv's song "Vågøyvannet rundt" depict a sense of uncertainty and doubt in the singer's life. The opening lines use vivid imagery, describing the blinking light between branches and the swift movement of feet like whirlwinds. The singer reflects on their own actions, acknowledging that they should have taken longer strides but their body is having a bad day.
The mention of "blood taste" suggests that experiences and emotions mature over time, similar to how the singer and the listener do. The singer expresses hope that things will work out, but wonders if they should continue on the current path or turn back.
The chorus repeats the phrase "I run around Vågøyvannet, but I don't dare venture out into deep water." This line can be interpreted metaphorically, representing the singer's fear of taking risks or facing the unknown. It may also reflect a feeling of being stuck or unable to fully explore life's possibilities.
In the second verse, the arrival of autumn is welcomed with wet shoes and withered leaves, symbolizing a sense of decay and uncertainty. The darkness of the season gives rise to doubt and directionless conversations, further emphasizing the singer's state of mind.
The song overall explores themes of hesitation, doubt, and the struggle to take risks or step into the unknown. It reflects the universal experience of questioning one's choices and the fear of diving into unfamiliar territory.
