Without You
Lana Lane Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lay me down in a bed of roses
Touch my lips before I sleep
You're with me now and when I close my eyes
You're in my dreams and pain's still deep

Like a candle in the rain I'm easy to put out
Like a picture through your window
You see right through my heart
Like a candle in the rain I'm easy to put out
Like a picture through your window
You see right through my heart

I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal, time will heal all wounds
I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal, time will heal all wounds

Lay me down in a bed of roses
Feel the thorns they cut my heart
The drops of blood they fall and mix with all my tears
Have I given up on love

Like a candle in the rain I'm easy to put out
Like a picture through your window
You see right through my heart

I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal, time will heal all wounds
I never knew that nights could be so long

Without you
And only time will heal, time will heal all wounds

Overall Meaning

The song "Without You" by Lana Lane is a heart-wrenching ballad about a relationship that has ended, leaving the singer feeling empty and lost. The first two lines, "Lay me down in a bed of roses, Touch my lips before I sleep," evoke a sense of sadness and longing. The singer is asking to be comforted and kissed, as if they are on their deathbed. They want to feel loved one last time before they close their eyes.

The chorus repeats the imagery of a "candle in the rain," which is an apt metaphor for the singer's fragile emotional state. They feel like they can be snuffed out at any moment, like a flame in a storm. The repetition of the line "Like a picture through your window, You see right through my heart" emphasizes the singer's vulnerability and transparency. They feel exposed and unprotected, and believe that their former partner can still see their innermost feelings.

The final stanza, "Lay me down in a bed of roses, Feel the thorns they cut my heart, The drops of blood they fall and mix with all my tears, Have I given up on love," is a heartbreaking acknowledgment of the pain of a failed relationship. The bed of roses is no longer a place of comfort, but instead, the thorns that surround it are cutting deep. The singer is bleeding both literally and metaphorically, and wonders if they can ever trust love again.

Overall, "Without You" is a powerful exploration of heartbreak and the struggle to move on from a lost love.

@Frenchrico Think part of it is because she is such a phenomenal singer, she adds more emotion to the song (which is, as you say very good to begin with). The production is excellent too, very haunting.
