Strangers
Langhorne Slim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've done things that make no sense
There was a devil in me
I had to set it free
New moons over bold desires
Things burn if you set them on fire
Now I've learned you gotta be courageous
In time everything changes
We're strangers
We don't want to get hurt
And even now I'm meeting danger
For what it's worth
We're strangers
For better or worse
We've never met danger
If things seem better when they're far away
That's exactly where they'll stay
Now what about the devil in you
Are you gonna cut it loose?
I woke up on a rugged sea
Free swimming inside of me
Closed my eyes and it got dark
All of a sudden I was from a spark
For what it's worth
We are strangers
We don't wanna get hurt
We've never been in danger
Now I get the feeling
That we can't lose
The cracks are there
Where the light shines through
For what it's worth
We are strangers
We don't wanna get hurt
We've never been in danger
Now I get the feeling
We can't lose
The cracks are there
Where the lights shine through
The song "Strangers" by Langhorne Slim is a reflection on the past experiences of the singer, who has been running from himself since his birth. The opening lines of the song suggest that he has done things that do not make sense and that he has been trying to set free the devil within him. The lyrics reflect an existential struggle and a desire for self-discovery and change.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the importance of being courageous and the inevitability of change. He recognizes that everything changes with time and, for better or worse, we are all strangers to one another. The singer questions whether it is better to keep things far away or face the devil within, suggesting that the only way to confront our demons is to cut them loose.
The chorus of the song, "for what it's worth, we are strangers, we don't wanna get hurt, we've never been in danger," emphasizes the theme of being an outsider in the world and the fear of getting hurt. However, the singer ends on a hopeful note, stating that he gets the feeling that "we can't lose" and that "the cracks are there where the light shines through." This sentiment reflects a belief that there is hope even in the darkest of times and that change is possible.
