D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.
La Mentira
Laura Fygi Lyrics

Laura Fygi's song La Mentira is a song with lyrics that touch the core of human relationships, with their ups and downs, their confessions, and their betrayals. In the first verse, the singer warns her lover that he forgets his own feelings and the fact that their love can withstand their fights and flaws if they both take the time to heal from their emotional scars. She reminds him that they are both human and vulnerable, and their commitment does not come without risks and difficulties.
In the next verse, the singer acknowledges her own power in the relationship, and she indicates that she could hurt her lover if she chose to act on her impulses. She stresses the importance of their pact and how their love is a mutual agreement that should not be taken for granted or abused. In the last verse, the singer empowers herself by declaring her independence from her lover and releases him from his promises. She tells him that their relationship is not about God or divine providence but about their humanity, their choices, and their acceptance of each other's limitations.
Overall, Laura Fygi's song La Mentira is a beautiful and profound reflection on love, trust, and self-discovery. It reminds us that love is not a fixed ideal that we can control or manipulate, but a fragile and dynamic connection that needs care, honesty, and grace to thrive.
