D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.

No sería tan inmensa mi tristeza
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y solamente tú
Y tú y tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y nadie más que tú
Ojos negros piel canela
Que me llegan a desesperar
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y solamente tú
Y tú y tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y nadie más que tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y solamente tú
Y tú y tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y nadie más que tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y solamente tú
Y tú y tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y nadie más que tú
Ojos negros piel canela
Que me llegan a desesperar
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y solamente tú
Y tú y tú
Me importas tú
Y tú y tú
Y nadie más que tú
This song, Piel Canela by Laura Fygi, is a romantic, passionate ballad about the love and adoration for a person's significant other. The lyrics express how the singer's lover is the most important thing in their life, over everything else in the world. The singer longs for their lover's unchanging beauty, specifically the deep color of their eyes and the cinnamon color of their skin. The singer acknowledges that losing other beautiful things, such as rainbows and flowers, would not bring as much sorrow as losing their lover's love.
The repetition of "me importas tu" (you matter to me) emphasizes the importance of their lover in their life, and how they are the only one that matters. The singer is desperate to be with their lover and cannot imagine life without them, shown in the line "que me llegan a desesperar" (that drive me to despair) describing the effect the lover's dark eyes and cinnamon skin have on them. The lyrics are meant to reflect the depth of one's love and the overwhelming emotions that come with it.

Que se quede el infinito sin estrellas
Even if the vastness of space lost all its stars,
Or even if the wide sea lost its immensity,
As long as the blackness in your eyes never fades,
And the cinnamon color of your skin remains the same,
Si perdiera el arcoiris su belleza
Even if the rainbow lost all its beauty,
And the flowers lost their scent and color,
No sería tan inmensa mi tristeza
My sadness would not be as great
As the sadness of losing your love
Me importas tú
You matter to me
Y tú y tú
And you, and you
Y solamente tú
And only you
Ojos negros piel canela
Dark eyes, cinnamon skin
Que me llegan a desesperar
That make me desperate
Y nadie más que tú
And no one else but you
