Malarone
Linea Aspera Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He's a protozoan, he's just a filthy protozoan.

The roads are dry and dusty and we're taking in the scenery.
Waving to the people in the fields;
this is life to me, as far as the eye can see,
and you are dead to me.

I was twisted up in Cwezi shrines and you were the anomaly,
a conceited disease.
Time spent in foreign lands is a cure, it seems,
and it triggered a change in me.

This is an unfamiliar strain, I have no immunity.
Ravenous and unrelenting, pathogenic and parasitic.

This is unclean and it has to be treated.
Parasite in the bloodstream: this is unclean,
and he's feeding, he's been feeding on everything.

The roads were dry and dusty, we were taking in the scenery.
Waving to the people in the fields;
this was life to me, as far as the eye could see,
and you were dead to me.

He's just a filthy protozoan.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Linea Aspera's song 'Malarone' depict a narrative of contamination and disease, using vivid imagery and metaphor to explore a relationship that has turned sour. The opening line, "He's a protozoan, he's just a filthy protozoan," sets the tone for the rest of the song, with the comparison to a single-celled organism suggesting the singer's disgust and contempt for their former partner. The use of 'protozoan', which suggests a primitive, primitive form of life, reinforces the idea of a toxic relationship that has been tainted from the beginning.

The next verse describes a journey through an unfamiliar landscape, which is juxtaposed with a relationship that has become dead and lifeless. The singer describes waving to people in the fields and taking in the scenery, but all the while the relationship remains a source of venom and anger. The chorus, "This is unclean and it has to be treated / Parasite in the bloodstream: this is unclean," reads like a warning, suggesting that the singer's partner is a source of contamination that needs to be purged.

The final verse returns to the theme of journeying through unfamiliar territory, with the singer reacting to their partner as a disease that they have no immunity to. The repeated use of the word 'unclean' suggests a visceral disgust for the relationship, which is characterised as unclean and parasitic. The final line, "He's just a filthy protozoan," reinforces the singer's disgust and contempt for their partner, but also suggests that the relationship is distant and past-tense, as if it has already been put to rest.

He's a protozoan, he's just a filthy protozoan

He's a protozoan, he's just a filthy protozoan

Los caminos están secos y polvorientos
The roads are dry and dusty

Los caminos están secos y polvorientos
The roads are dry and dusty

Y estamos contemplando el paisaje
And we're taking in the scenery

Saludando a la gente en los campos
Waving to the people in the fields

Esta es la vida para mi
This is life to me

Tan lejos como el ojo pueda ver
As far as the eye can see

Y estás muerto, estás muerto, estás muerto para mí
And you are dead, you are dead, you are dead to me
I was twisted up in Cwezi shrines, and you were the anomaly

Una enfermedad engreída
A conceited disease

Time spent in foreign lands is a cure

Parece, y desencadenó un cambio en mí
It seems, and it triggered a change in me
This is an unfamiliar strain, I have no immunity

Voraz e implacable, patógeno y parasitario
Ravenous and unrelenting, pathogenic and parasitic

Esto es inmundo y hay que tratarlo.
This is unclean and it has to be treated

Parasite in the bloodstream: this is unclean, this is unclean

And he's feeding, he's been feeding on everything
I was twisted up in Cwezi shrines, and you were the anomaly

Una enfermedad engreída
A conceited disease

Waving to the people in the fields

This was life to me, as far as the eye could see

@antichristsuperstar3295

Listening to her texts of this song and others from her Linea Aspera period "the jungle is hunting me" for example, and her being born in Australia and raised in Asia, made me wonder if this realy about her being infected with a bad strain of Malaria. In an interview she said she'd never go back to australia if there isn't a special reason for it. Then, living in Berlin... nordic and cold, far far away from the jungle that was hunting her, it just made me wonder.

Anyway, I am totaly in love with her voice,.

She is a sort of enigma, no wiki page, there is nothing about her, it is all about her music.

Great artist and I will be there when she is in town.

@antiscyllisneocht5669

intricate and properly written save for but two mispellings.. "realy" and "totaly" are both spelled with two L's and now to engage what you wrote..

you have a peculiar taste in women, if what qualities found in her you subconsciously seek in others as she seems to be emotionally distraught and displaced in most ov her songs.

i do not know enough to fully commit behind that observation, but this song is as you've described with replacement ov events with characteristics found in a former person ov interest, it seems.

as for visually?

well.. i'd have to concur with your sentiment as it points to a physical debt you left unspoken that i can relate to as she's ov effect, similar in nature, for me as well.
