Lightning Crashes
Live Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Lightning crashes a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door

Lightning crashes an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor

The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now to the baby down the hall

Oh now feel it, coming back again
Like a rolling, thunder chasing the wind
Forces pulling from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it

Lightning crashes a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris
Presents the circle
Puts the glory out to hide, hide

Oh now feel it, coming back again
Like a rolling, thunder chasing the wind
Forces pulling from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it
I can feel it

Oh, I
Oh, I
Oh, I

I can feel it, coming back again
Like a rolling, thunder chasing the wind
Forces pulling from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it

I can feel it, coming back again
Like a rolling, thunder chasing the wind
Forces pulling from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it

I can feel it, coming back again
Like a rolling, thunder chasing the wind
Forces pulling from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it

I can feel it
I can feel it

Overall Meaning

The song "Lightning Crashes" by Live is a powerful and emotional depiction of the cycle of life and death. The opening lyrics describe the experiences of two different mothers - one giving birth to new life, while the other passes away. The dramatic imagery of lightning crashing and a placenta falling to the floor heightens the intensity of these events. The mention of an angel opening and closing her eyes implies a spiritual dimension to what is happening.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "I can feel it, coming back again" several times, building on the idea that life and death are recurring and cyclical events. The forces pulling from the center of the earth again suggest that these cycles are part of a larger, natural order. The addition of the line "like a rolling thunder chasing the wind" adds a sense of urgency and mystery to this idea.

In the final verse, the focus returns to the new mother giving birth. The repeating "oh, I" lines suggest a personal connection or intense emotion that the singer is experiencing. The pale blue colored iris mentioned in the lyrics may symbolize the fragility and preciousness of new life. The final line "puts the glory out to hide, hide" could be interpreted in many ways - perhaps it speaks to the challenges and struggles that come with new life, or the idea that even in the midst of joy, there is always some pain or sorrow.

Overall, "Lightning Crashes" is a deeply moving and thought-provoking song that tackles themes of life, death, and spirituality in a unique and poetic way.

@Kathy Myers I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm so glad your daughter is still with you. I can't imagine the depth of the shock and grief of your daughter and your grief and fear of losing her and the grief of all those missing this unborn child.

My brother lost his mind due to street drug use and mental illness, killed his best friend, then committed suicide in 1996. I was 20. He was 22. I'm in my 40s now. The family of the young man killed by my brother knew my brother was not in his right mind and showed grace toward my family even in their grief. My mom cried for days.

A mom losing a child is about the deepest depth of human grief a human can experience, according to my psychologist years after my brother's death.

This song Lightning Crashes reminds me of my brother. I don't remember why exactly. I think one reason is he just liked this band called Live.

Another commonality between my story and yours is my brother had diabetes.

He would sometimes go into diabetic shock when he was younger when his blood sugar would get messed up. He hated having to stab his leg with an insulin needle every day. And he hated pricking his fingers to test his blood sugar.

I can't imagine your daughter's grief of finding out her unborn child is dead before birth. All that time waiting and planning and dreaming for your soon to be born child and having the dreams for the child's future ripped away and a hole cut through your heart at the end. I'm so so sorry. My sincere condolences for the mom and family of this lost child.

I hope this comment does no harm and only let's you know other folks hate this happened to you and especially to your daughter. We wish nothing but joy and hope and comfort for the future.

I worry that when life gets that dark, the folks who are grieving may not want to hear about God. But I just want you to know my hope is that God will turn these unspeakably dark circumstances in your daughter's life and in your life into something beautiful one day, even if it's just letting those who are suffering know they are not alone, and that you have suffered too, and that you made it through by God's grace.
