There is no doubt. People conventionally say that of Schubert, but our Antonin was born with melody built into his DNA. I owe a great personal debt to him. My first hearing of his music at school in 1969 (when I was 10 years old) gripped me and opened a door to the wonderful world of classical music that probably might have never happened otherwise.

I visited Prague a few years ago and made a special trip to the National Cemetery at Vysherad in the city where Czech national heroes have their final resting places. I paid tribute to the great man by standing and then kneeling at the front of his grave and spending some special quiet personal intimate moments with him - as a way of thanking him. It meant the world to me.

I find his music all having the same kind of freshness and goodness which goes right to the soul in a way that the music of hardly any other classical composer does. I can't explain it, but I know it when I feel it and I shall be forever grateful of that magic he has bestowed surely not just on me, but on all of his other fellow grateful admirers all around the world.

I intend to return to Prague some time soon to visit his birthplace in Nelahozeves - 20km north-west of Prague.

It will happen on a September 8th - his birthday - and I shall of course use the method of transportation that he loved and that fascinated him - the train - to travel those last 20km to get there .

And I during those 20km, I shall play that magical piece of music which entranced me all those years ago - and still does.

His first set of Slavonic Dances - Opus 46!

Děkuji, my friend!

I personally feel Cowboys and families riding towards the west for the Homestead act would be perfect as well.
The 3rd movement especially. When I listen to it I can imagine a cowboy with a repeater rifle looking for a site to build his ranch and farm to raise his family.
