Didn't Mean To Call
Louise Carver Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Didn't mean I'm just mildly insecure
A little needy
A little wanting for
I didn't mean to call
Make a fuss
Interrupt your thoughts
Oh, I was just being
A little childish
A little charming
A bit suspicious
Oh, too ambitious
But my decision
Love with conviction
Takes its toll
Whisper in my ear (Whisper in my ear)
Tell me all your fears, it's 4am
And I am here (I am here)
Crawl into my night (Crawl into my night)
Hold my hand so tight
You say, babe
Oh, you make me
Oh, you make me
I didn't mean to call
Didn't mean I'm just mildly insecure
A little needy
A little wanting for
I didn't mean to shout
Slam down the phone
Walk out of the door
I was just being
Oh, I was just feeling
A little childish
A little charming
A bit suspicious
Oh, too ambitious
But my decision
Love with conviction
Takes its toll
Whisper in my ear (Whisper in my ear)
Tell me all your fears, it's 4am
And I am here (I am here)
Crawl into my night (Crawl into my night)
Hold my hand so tight
You say, babe
Oh, you make me
Oh, you make me smile
Oh, you make
Oh, you make me smile
Oh, you make me
Oh, you make me smile
The song "Didn't Mean to Call" by Louise Carver is essentially about a person who is confessing their feelings of insecurity and neediness to their partner. The lyrics highlight that the singer did not intend to call their partner or make a fuss but, deep down, they just want to be with them. They admit that they are a little needy and want more of their partner's attention, hence why they called or acted out.
The lyrics also touch on the idea that love can be a complicated emotion, and can take a toll on a person's mental and emotional state. The singer recognizes that their feelings can sometimes be childish or overly suspicious, but ultimately they make the decision to love their partner with conviction despite the challenges that come with it.
Overall, the song is a message to the singer's partner that they are aware of their own faults but still deeply care for them. It is a candid confession of their insecurities and need for love and affection.

She is one of the most under-rated SA artists. Every time I listen to her music all that gets to my mind is road trip to neverland. Her voice is inexplicably sublime; I love her.
