The late 80s to early 90s Houston Oilers went to 7 straight play offs and failed every time to get past the 2nd round. They also blew the biggest lead in NFL history in the '92 season. That '93 team is one of the most talented teams in NFL history. They were STACKED with pro bowlers, all pro players and future HOFers.

They were overrated. Run n shoot is deceiving. It only works against the horrible teams. Most of the better teams had no problem beating the Oilers. Oilers only playoff win during the Moon era was against an 8-8 Jets' team in the first round of playoffs. That in itself is a joke. Oilers were one big joke. The Houston fans wanted them out. The Houston fans knew in a few more years they would get another franchise, and that is what happened.

90's 49ers. Lost NFC Championship Games in '90, '92, '93 and '97. 3 of those were home games. Lost Divisional playoff games in '95, '96 and '98...
2011-2013 49ers. 3 straight NFC Championship Games, 1 Conference Title, 0 Super Bowls.

I’d put my Chicago Bears on this list as well. I thought the Bears might have been able to add at least one more title during the late 80’s.
However an unremarkable offense led by oft injured or inconsistent Quarterbacks doomed them.

We should’ve for sure won during the 14-2 season in 2006 with ladanian tomlinson’s 28 rushing TD mvp season. The team was so stacked, but ofc the patriots were the problem. We should’ve beat the pats in the divisional, beat the colts (who we seemed in the 2000’s to always win during playoff matchups), and then beat the very weak bears team in the Super Bowl. But in reality, we had a sloppy divisional game against pats, and were one and done.

1967-1977 Oakland Raiders played in 9 AFL/AFC Championship Games, but only won 2 of them. So during that 11 year stretch, there were only 2 years (1971, 1972) where the Raiders were not in the Championship Game, only to win 1 Superbowl.

People forget just how incredible Dan Marino was, especially in 1984. He threw for over 5000 yards with 48 TDs in a league where defense was king. Had he played at that same level in today's league, he'd probably have a 6000 yrd/65 TD season.

2013-2017 seahawks is another one that could make the list. Everyone thought we were the next Patriots at the time. But almost all of our 2013-2014 players are gone now, and we havne't been a complete team for a while. Thankfully though, Wilson still gets us to the playoffs each year. Too bad you can't win superbowls without defenses.

The mid 80's Bears. Probably would have gone back to back until McMahon had his shoulder separated on a cheap shot against GB in 86. They were 14-2 and statistically their defense was even better than the 85 unit but they were 1 dimensional on offense thanks to the injury and that just won't get it done in the postseason.

Running into Parcels/Belichick & then the hottest NFC teams (Resskims & Cowboys) defused their constant 2 minute offense that seemed to get slowed down in Super Bowls by refs who weren’t going to play an entire game running up to spot the ball & get the play started quickly for the entire game.

I know this is so biased but how on earth can you forget the 85 Bears. Best RB ever with the best defense ever. Also had the swagger from William Perry and had unreal speed from Willie Gault. Shame in 86' cheap shotting GB hurt Jim McMahon because Bears might've went back to back.

You want misery,Okay, Let's talk about the team that was a big disappointment this year let's talk about the Browns. This was the year it was all going to turn around, at the least we were supposed to be in the playoffs, Maybe win the AFC north, instead we went 6 and10 and lost the last game of the season to the 1 and 15 Bungholes, Freddie Kitchens got fired and now were almost back to square one. And if your still feeling down go a little further west from Cleveland upto Detroit and ask what it's like to be a Lions fan, Cincinnati Bungholes the same thing, another one is Arizona, The Cardnals, Take a good look around theres enough misery to go around, and I never thought I would've seen the day but football misery has also showed up in Dallas as well!

+Kyle Reese Maybe, I've seen hundreds of NFL Films at this point. But regardless, teams of the decade only get that label by winning league championships. I love the fact that people like William Grant have so much respect for what the Bills accomplished, the Bills deserve to be recognized for what they achieved. But Dynasty status is another level reserved for Champions.

As a side note, it's unfortunate that we're about to leave this decade without a dynasty. Some people say the Patriots are it, but I disagree. They went an entire decade without winning a Super Bowl (2004 - 2014). If they manage to win another this will be a second dynasty for them. Sadly, during that decade long drought, no other team emerged to form a dynasty. The Steelers had a shot to seal it with a 3rd ring in 4 years but blew it against the Packers in SB 45.

@Program Files™ I'm not dis crediting them. They are the greatest dynasty of all time with the greatest coach and greatest QB. But the evidence was overwhelming and the NFL covered it up to protect the shield. This is something that we've believed since 2001. We didn't know they were going to be a dynasty back then. Watch the game again, listen to some player interviews. This isn't just a "oh we lost so they must have cheated" thing.

The Colts had some HoF talent, but not enough on defense which matters in the postseason. The best they had outside of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis would probably be Antoine Bethea and Mike Peterson. Other than that, you had such big names as Jeff Burris, Jason Belser, Chad Cota, Tyrone Poole, Gary Brackett and Rob Morris.

I saw that “Four Falls of Buffalo”. They should’ve gone 2-2, beating the Giants in XXV, losing to the Redskins in XXVI and splitting with Dallas (lose XXVII, win XXVIII)

Of course, the single most hilarious moment in that film was listening to Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith and Darryl Talley claim that the one they should’ve won ...WAS XXVI AGAINST THE REDSKINS!! I literally had to pause the movie for almost a half hour until I stoped ROTFLMAO!

I could go on with many stats but I will just use one. Only 4 times in the last 70 years has a defense given up less than 1 TD per game. The 69 Vikes, the 70 Vikes, the 71 Vikes and the 73 Vikes. At one point the Vikings gave up just 19 TDs over 27 regular season games starting with the second game in 1969. These are touchdowns given up by the defense not special teams or the offense, Over 400 hours of research on the subject and taking stats from a whole regular season and not just a few playoff games puts the 85 Bears at #33 on the list of all-time greatest defenses. The 63 Bears come in at #4 though and the 86 Bears were better than the 85's.

The 1990 Bills had outscored their playoff opponents 75-17 before the Super Bowl. Bill Belichick, the dynasty killer, was the defensive coordinator of the NY Giants defense that beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. He is responsible in some way of stopping 3 of the 7 potential dynasties in this video. I'm a Bills fan, and I barf in my mouth to give the Pats or Belichick credit, but Bill Belichick is one of the best football minds ever.

i would include the 90's Cowboys on the list ..the firing of Jimmy Johnson , the salary cap that caused them to lost key players on the O line and at linebacker ...they really should have won five not three

Kind of a cop out since the team is still successful, but I feel like the late 2000's Patriots should be included in this list, or at least considered. They were one play and one injury away from at least one if not two or three SB's, potentially in a row. The fact that Junior Seau never got a ring is incredibly sad, and some of those position groups were downright nasty. I would also throw the Legion of Boom Seahawks into this category. Team had no huge flaws overall and were 1 play and 1 awfully timed trade away from being a potential dynasty

What about the 49ers with Kaep and how Crabtree went with the Raiders, Patrick Willis retired, and Jim Harbough was fired, and how the 9ers had the worst offensive line ever because the front office same refused to help at all which led to Kaep to lose all his chemistry with the coaches and his players.

Dan Fouts and the Air Coryell Chargers of the late 70’s-early 80s were loaded and dynamic on offense.. . But their defense was Swiss cheese. Never even made a super bowl appearance.

2010s Cincinnati Bengals could definitely be an honorable mention here. 6 playoff appearances yet never winning a single playoff game. Perhaps not "Dynasty" level but still a prime example of severely wasted potential.

@robert flynn I won't. But that's was by only a last second field goal. Not a beatdown. And if d.mcnabb and TO weren't feuding it might have been different. Still, I'll give them that win. That was one of the few great SB wins the pats have. That and the comeback against Atlanta. I won't take those away from them, but that doesn't change the fact that they get a free ride to the playoffs every year. Again I'm not saying they are a bad team, just that it's much easier to make it to the SB when you're guaranteed a playoff spot every year.

How come I’m now just getting the exact vibes from Patrick Mahomes as I do Dan Marino. I think he’ll be debatably the most talented qb ever, but he will only win one super bowl if that.

While they may have only won one Super Bowl, you can't call the GSOT a one-year wonder. 3-straight seasons as the leagues top offense, 3-straight NFL MVPs, and 2 SB appearances. I'd call them a one year wonder if they never made another deep playoff run. Some actually argue they were more talented than 1999, going 14-2 with many of their young stars starting to become dominant

No offense to McMahon who was a good fit for what they wanted to do, but if they had a better quarterback than him, and the others that followed, they may have had a better shot long term.

Wasn't a one year wonder they went 13-3 the next year and would've prob won if the Packers didn't knock jim mchmahon out for the season the defense actually was better that year then the 85 bears and even the year after pretty sure they went 12-4

What a lot of people forget about the only SB the Colts got, while that season started good - around week 13 we started playing like crap. The general consensus locally was we would lose in the divisional. I knew a lot of people that didn't even bother watching that game.

To be fair on the Eagles’ slot, after listening to T.O.’s side of the story I don’t think he gets a fair enough shake and ultimately gets named the villain, which started in SF and he had said himself he wanted to do better and treat McNabb better than he did Garcia.

If Seattle would’ve never choked again the pats, they would’ve won three straight superbowls. The talent was all there but they started questioning the coaching staff after the loss. Especially if dan Quinn would’ve never left; he was the mastermind behind that defense.

I’m not sure it entirely qualifies, but in a similar vein as the early to mid 2000’s Eagles is the Bucs of the same era. That squad that won the Super Bowl was absolutely butchered and skewered.

1997-2002 Buccaneers had the defense for multiple Superbowls. The year the Rams won it all the Bucs held the "Greatest Show on Turf" to 11 points and lost over the "Burt Emmanuel" catch rule.

Teams in a number of sports fail to surround their superstars with enough talent to win, consistently. Outside of poor drafting and mediocre free agent signings, respectively. It doesn't help that half of these teams were either in small markets, had poor ownership, or were moved around from other cities.

2013 Seahawks with LOB, Beast Mode, and Dangerous. If they won back to back 48,49 it’s a dynasty. and LOB stays together longer, no injuries. That’s 3 HOF. PLUS Russ, Beast Mode, and Bobby Wagner. 6 HOF. Maybe another SB appearance or Win

#8 The 70's San Diego Chargers with arguably the best quarterback of his time in Dan Fouts.
#9 The Chicago Bears of the mid 80's. After dominating all (except the Dolphins), they never made it back to the Super Bowl.
#10 The 70's Los Angeles Rams. They won their division 8 consecutive times and winning 141 games between 1967 - 1980 (average 10 wins per season). They only made the Super Bowl once and lost.

The Bucs laid out the Blue Print to Defeat the Lambs. Look at what the Lambs did in the 17 Previous Games before the NFCCG vs the Bucs, a game in which they only scored 9 points, then look at the next 17 games played by the Lambs.

When you have a Great Offense, that is in essence a Gimmick Offense, THAT is NOT a Dynasty.

I’d disagree with the late 90’s Vikings. That team, other than Moss, was carried by players who were a season or two at most removed from retirement. Cris Carter, Cunningham, and John Randle were entering their late 30s and there’s no way they could keep it up.

In their place, I’d suggest the Welker/Moss era Patriots. I mean real talk, that team should have won at least a couple Super Bowls. If SB 42 was played 10 Times, the Pats would prolly win that 7-8 Times. The next season is the one with Brady out all year and then they flop again against the Giants.

7.07 - Well that's not fair blaming the front office on the Colts implosions. Like you stated they had multiple 12 win seasons, they were winning games left and right, it was just playoff games they always fell in. I think it had more to do with the players they had not stepping up in those games and the unfortunate fact that they always seem to run into a team that was hitting their peak. (Everybody always blames the front office. When the team wins, we say it was the players or the coach, when they lose, it's the front office. Hardly fair.)
