I also have people in my life I’m not very fond of, however, if I’d be getting such a shady question in such environment, I’d probably would start to call out the one who asked it. I’ve been doing this in certain settings, and it makes people feel very uncomfortable. It was obviously a nasty hook thrown at Paris knowing that it will cause more drama. I am an old hag so I remember and I can tell you💀 She went to jail and nobody felt bad about it. The media absolutely clowned her and every interview was about her upcoming jail stint. That is how it was talked about. Then, she had a ptsd reaction in jail and was crying until she threw up and refusing to eat due to being locked up. The jail staff people made a statement saying they really thought confinement was bad for her, so they let her out. Then, everybody in the media clowned her for “being so spoiled they let her out”.

Ofc, people at that time did not understand why she was having that severe of a reaction and just thought she was being a whiny rich girl. Now we know she was a young adult with serious confinement related trauma from childhood.

Still, it must be said that she probably would not have been released if she was not who she is— but I think that’s an indictment on the American prison system for failing to take regular peoples’ mental health seriously. Thats a systemic problem. Imo it’s good she was released if it was causing so much turmoil that her suffering was that obvious to the jail staff.

I was shocked and offended when I saw those recordings when they came out. That said, I do think she has made efforts to better herself. I don’t make excuses for whatever motivated her to make racism comments - it was wrong and hurtful full stop. But I do understand that young people are dumb and have a lot of learning to do, and she was 20 or 21 at that time. If I am not mistaken, she made homophobic comments were around the same time. It’s been 2 decades since and she has seemed to widen her peer group and no longer makes statements of those natures, and hasn’t in nearly 20 years. I think we do need to allow for growth and personal development and there is ample reason to believe she is and has been doing work in that respect. Also, there is reason to believe she was saying this genre of stuff bc her background normalized it, but that does not mean she actually subscribes to the ideas. My reason for thinking this is that I’ve long suspected Paris is closet queer. Why? There are TONS of pictures of her making out with women and multiple rumored full blown relationships with photographic history over lengths of time that she has had with women. Old hags may recall her obsession with the show The L Word; she was obsessed to the point that she tried to attend a cast party in a wig and disguise but gave it up after paparazzi identified it was her. Why wear a disguise if you aren’t trying to hide that you’re into it? I think she’s not straight and she carries a lot of shame about her “non norm” interest, considering her conservative WASPy background. If anyone doesn’t remember these things, review the Paris Exposed storage locker leaks and just Google Paris L Word Party, you’ll find it all. I don’t think she was ever actually homophobic, just self hating and projecting. I think she was prejudicial on race, so racist. But I don’t have reason to believe she still is so after all this time within which she’s shown some personal growth and expanded her peers. I think it’s weird to assume POC made her uncomfy with jail when there is a direct, obvious trauma related explanation for a ptsd reaction.

I really feel like the perfect age demographic for these videos and it makes them that much more tragic from my pov. I was just old enough to know like who these people were and I of course remember hearing britney on the radio and freaky friday on disney channel etc etc.
But more than anything I remember feeling confused. I'd be in the grocery aisle and read these headlines about people I thought were cool, but couldn't fully comprehend what things actually meant or how the world worked. I remember seeing Britney with her shaved head playing on TV in the hospital once and my grandmother scoffing, but not explaining anything further. Or hearing people in the other room gossip about Paris Hilton being a "wild" young lady.
Being an adult in my mid 20's now, I can obviously see a lot more of the reasons and nuance behind these people and their horrible media exploitation. I wish I could write better to express the feelings I have, but I really appreciate these videos for filling in these gaps and telling these stories. Its so emotional when something comes up in a video and I can remember the magazine cover or the news article about it—its like finding reality's sad missing puzzle pieces.
